The Warrior Is A Child, Evans Olang

Psalm 61:1-8, “vs. 2…From the end of the earth I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I…”

We often get overwhelmed with daily responsibilities. Sometimes when you are still working on this, here comes another one. While trying to work on another one, here comes a new one. Everything has its season and how we deal with situations during certain seasons may determine the outcome. The overwhelming situations can choke out peace, confidence and courage, as weeds do choke good plants if they remain active in the same field with good plants. You may be dealing with overwhelming situations both at home and work, let us see what the Lord has for us.

Vs. 1 “Hear my cry, O God, attend to my prayer”, the first thing addressed in this line is prayer, have you prayed over your situation or are you waiting for someone to come and lay hands on you to make it? Lay your own foundation of prayer faith and others will come around you to help you build the walls. I have met people who wanted to see things happen in their lives and the first question I would ask them, “Have you laid your foundation?”, What is the foundation, prayer of faith?

Vs. 2 “From the ends of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed, Lead me to the rock that is higher than I”. Of course our hearts will get overwhelmed and so are our minds and bodies, but what happens when they get overwhelmed? Please do not lead me to temptations, friends, neighbors, programs etc., lead me to the Rock, not just any rock, but the Rock that is higher than I. Simply because the Rock cannot be overwhelmed, moved or shaken and if the Rock is higher than I, I will make it my dwelling and hiding place.

Vs. 3 “For you have been a shelter for me, A strong water from the enemy”. The Lord is our shelter strengthened by Proverbs 18:10, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run into it and they are safe”. Just His name alone is a strong tower in other words a strong Rock. When you find yourself overwhelmed, calm your nerves, keep your mind on Him for peace and be led to the Rock that is higher than us. The bible says in Nehemiah 8:10, “…for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” The unbelievers ask me why I always have this joy even when things at times go wrong, I simply say, “the joy of the Lord”

Vs. 8, “So I will praise Your name forever, That I may daily perform my vows”, just because you are under a shelter does not exempt you from work, this is the reason we continue to praise and be glad and daily perform our vows. We have vowed to be the best we can wherever the Lord plants us by His grace. We pray for freedom to serve Him “…for it is God which works in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure”, Philippians 2:13. So keep on fighting the good fight of a soldier, enduring for He is your Rock of Ages, Strong Tower, Firm Foundation, Solid Rock, Anchor of your Life and more.

To sum up, we are all children in warriors’ gears. God is our Armor therefore stand and make it however hard times are. When it gets too much and sometimes we cry, they have no understanding by what means we make it, they do not know that underneath the armor, the warrior is just a child. Check out this portion of lyrics from the song “The warrior is a child”, by Twila Paris “They don’t know that I would go running home when I fall down, they don’t know who picks me up when no one is around, sometimes I drop my sword and cry for a while, because deep inside this armor, the warrior is just a child”, Thank God for the being the Armor, Blessings Ev
