What is clear oil? From is it derived from -olives? Olive has a special significance in the Bible. The oil can be extracted only if olive is pressed rather crushed /squeezed. This olive undergoes painful treatment for the core essence to get extracted, which in turn becomes the source of nourishment for many. This oil has to be used in the lamps so that they give light and can be kept burning continually. Continue reading
1Kings 18:1-45, “17 Then it happened, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said to him, “Is that you, O troubler of Israel?” 18 And he answered, “I have not troubled Israel, but you and your father’s house have, in that you have forsaken the commandments of the Lord and have followed the Baals.”
Whenever you are dealing with happenings, we need to get to the starting point, the root. Without understanding the starting point, finger pointing can easily be done. In our day, people are finger pointing politicians, mother nature, religious leaders, young people, Hollywood etc. In the midst of finger pointing, we try to deal with the symptoms ignoring to address the bigger issue lying underneath those symptoms.
Luke 10:25-37, “36 So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?” 37 And he said, “He who showed mercy on him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”
One of the comforting words often shared when someone is facing challenges is “if you need anything, don’t hesitate to call me”. Many times I wonder the reality of these words. Are they many times said in the moments when there is nothing to say, or something easy to say but don’t mean it or has very little meaning or people don’t just think them through? And what does “anything” really mean? Continue reading
Exodus 29:19-20, “Take the other ram, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on its head. Slaughter it, take some of its blood and put it on the lobes of the right ears of Aaron and his sons, on the thumbs of their right hands, and on the big toes of their right feet…”
Applying the blood to the ear, was about hearing only God’s Word, while applying it to the thumb was about rightly serving God and God’s people. Lastly, but equally important is the application of the blood covering to the “big toes of their right feet,” so that the sanctified walk of the priests would be examples to the people. What priest walked here on earth in perfect righteousness?
Exodus 29:19-2, “Take the other ram, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on its head. Slaughter it, take some of its blood and put it on the lobes of the right ears of Aaron and his sons, on the thumbs of their right hands, and on the big toes of their right feet…”
First we examined this verse and how the blood was applied to the ear lobe of the high priest Aaron and his sons. Second the blood was applied to the thumb on their right hand. What was so significant about that? well I’m glad you were pondering. Remember Peter wrote, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God…”, 1 Peter 2:9. Exodus 29:19-20, “Take the other ram, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on its head. Slaughter it, take some of its blood and put it on the lobes of the right ears of Aaron and his sons, on the thumbs of their right hands, and on the big toes of their right feet… “
Aaron was the high priest of Israel and Moses’ right hand man. He was a spiritual leader, and therefore both he and his sons went through a priestly ritual of being consecrated by blood. They were to have blood applied to three of their extremities which were: the lobe of the priest’s right ear, the right thumb, and the right big toe. Peter says, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God…“, 1Peter 2:9. Continue reading
Hebrews 13:3, “Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering”.
A while back my wife and I attended the Voice of the Martyrs Missions Conference in Oklahoma. This gathering was filled with our precious family members, many that have been imprisoned, beaten, tortured, and almost killed for Christ. Many of us have probably never met a brother or sister in Christ that has been through real persecution in this day and age. “It didn’t end at the Coliseum, Christians still die” Continue reading
1Samuel 16:1-13, “1 The LORD said to Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and be on your way; I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I have chosen one of his sons to be king.” …12 So he sent and had him brought in. He was ruddy, with a fine appearance and handsome features. Then the LORD said, “Rise and anoint him; he is the one. 13, “So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the LORD came upon David in power. Samuel then went to Ramah”
Can you imagine if one were a king, but had no kingdom? This is where David found himself for a time, when he was first anointed to be the King of Israel. Continue reading
1Corinthians 1:10, “Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment”
In Acts 8, Phillip goes down to Samaria to preach Christ. Peter and John upon hearing that the Samaritans had received the word came to witness. When they got there, through their laying on of hands, the people who had received the gospel message from Phillip received the Holy Spirit. Continue reading
