Numbers 12:1-16, “3 Now the man Moses was very humble (meek), more humble than all men who were on the face of the earth”

The game of life is always two sides, the opposing side and the proposing side. Not everyone will agree to one thing equally, there will be some who will oppose it. At times what is allowed to win is what the majority have voted for regardless of whether it is good or bad, true or false. The vastly voted for will be used to silence what it is voted against. When you know what is right, who will stand with you when they have voted against you?

Miriam and Aaron are Moses’ blood sister and brother. Aaron was appointed by God to be Moses’ spokesman and later a priest. Miriam on the other hand was instrumental in keeping Moses safe when a decree was passed that all newly born male children would be killed, she protected her little brother. God did excellent things through the life of Moses.

We then see a shift at some point, Numbers 12:1, “Then Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman he had married“. What constitutes to what is good in your life, must it be approved by people for it to be good? The bible does not say they spoke with Moses or spoke about Moses or spoke for Moses, the bible says they spoke against Moses. They opposed his marriage to someone they did not like, from a tribe they did not approve of. I am puzzled because if God did not want him to marry the Ethiopian woman, God would have rebuked Moses for his actions. At times people want to conform you into what they want you to be and when you do not, they will speak against you. They do not care much about what is good for you, they care about what is good for them for you. Everything Moses had done with God’s help worked for them and the Israelites, but now here is someone God brings into his life and these two were against it.

Vs. 2, “So they said (Miriam and Aaron), “Has the Lord indeed spoken only through Moses? Has He not spoken through us also? and the Lord heard it“. What would you say about this verse? I will point out that according to them, Moses had not done the will of God. Another point, they considered themselves equal to Moses because God had spoken to them too. They became arrogant as they bragged about how the Lord had also spoken to them before. Moses was chosen by God when he did not even see himself as a leader and then given a task bigger than himself. He knew that if he was going to do a good job, God had to be on his side, he therefore humbled himself.

Point to make, Those who are meek do not fight back in life. They learn the secret of surrender and yielding to God as God fights for them. Note that Moses did not try to defend himself, try to explain even how God might have spoken to him about his marriage. He did not even reason with them because the God who had brought him this far was the only One who could defend him. Psalm 118:6, “The Lord is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do to me?”. Those who know their God will not fight things in the flesh, they will surrender it to God. Numbers 12:3, “Now the man Moses was very humble (meek), more humble than all men who were on the face of the earth“. With this line, someone would think that Moses must have been a weak person to allow people to walk all over him, but that is not what it says. The bible says that Moses was meek (humble) which is means HIS STRENGTH WAS UNDER CONTROL. His meekness allowed God to deal with him differently. God spoke to the prophets by visions and dreams but with Moses vs. 7-8, “7 Not so with My servant Moses; He is faithful in all My house, 8. “I speak to him face to face, even plainly, and not in the dark sayings; And he sees the form of the Lord”. The manner of relationship God had with Moses was because of his meekness and faithfulness, and God spoke to him face to face. Yahweh’s revelation to Moses was unique. It was direct (plainly) and immediate (face to face); the prophets’ revelations were mediated forms. The clear lesson is that even prophets cannot presume to claim that their message is equal to that of the scriptures.Prophesies do not have the equal authority the bible has. Some prophesies have failed, God’s word has never failed.

God was angry with Miriam and Aaron because of what they said against God’s servant Moses. He brought the three of them before Him and He defended Moses that day. Be careful not to speak things against those who God has called. They may speak truth you may not want to hear. You might feel more qualified to do the job better than them but God who appointed them knew what He was doing. God has chosen them for a reason to accomplish things you and I could never accomplish. You do not know what they have to go through to be where they are. Not everyone is on their side but they are chosen. The meek ones are doing God’s work but not for personal gain.
