Numbers 12:1-16, “13 So Moses cried out to the Lord, saying, “Please heal her, O God, I pray”
Just to add from “God Defends His Chosen” message, Yahweh’s revelation to Moses was unique. It was direct (plainly) and immediate (face to face); the prophets’ revelations were mediated forms. The clear lesson is that even prophets cannot presume to claim that their message is equal to that of the scriptures. Prophesies do not have the equal authority the bible has. Some prophesies have failed, God’s word has never failed.
Numbers 12:9, “So the anger of the Lord was aroused against them, and He departed, vs. 10. “…suddenly Miriam became leprous, as white as snow”. In the Old Testament, brazen sin was often punished by God through leprosy. We can conclude that because of what they did, she was cursed. Another incident where I see God defending His servant after he was despised is in 2Samuel 6:14, “Then David danced before the Lord with all his might…., vs. 16, “Now as the ark of the Lord came into the City of David, Michal, Saul’s daughter, looked through a window and saw king David leaping and whirling before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart”. Michal was David’s wife who despised David worshipping the Lord when he brought the Ark of the Lord. The Lord was not happy with her and her punishment? in vs. 23, “Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no children to the day of her death”, the Lord shut her womb. It is clear to me that the Lord cares about people who serve Him in spirit and in truth and in that, Isaiah 54:17, “No weapon formed against you (them) shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment, You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me”, Says the Lord”. If you speak or despise someone else who is busy doing the work of God, it will not work. If you are doing what the Lord requires of you, anything that someone else speaks against you or despises you for will not work, for the Lord will defend his own because their righteousness is from Him.
Numbers 12:11, “So Aaron said to Moses, “Oh, my lord! please do not lay this sin on us, in which we have done foolishly and in which we have sinned“. Aaron and Miriam understood their need to ask for forgiveness over their rebellion. Tough to reconcile with someone you have wronged or has wronged yo, but that is where the healing is. James 5:16, “Confess your faults one to another, pray for one another that you may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much“. Instead of crying to God to do something, they went to the one who they spoke against to reconcile with him that the healing could take place. Numbers 12:13, “So Moses cried out to the Lord, saying, “Please heal her, O God, I pray“, same Moses spoken against is the same Moses who interceded for his sister’s healing. See the humble have mercy and compassion simply because they have received it at one time. They do not hold any grudges against people who wrong them. They are like Stephen who said, “Father forgive them, do not hold this against them” as he was being stoned to death. Jesus said, “Father forgive them for they do not know what they are doing“. Can you and I reach to that place where we cry, “Father forgive them for doing it whether they meant to or not?”. The key is to release them, drop the charges and forgive. Forgive is to let go what you are holding onto. Moses prayer to God was for his sister to be healed and God honored the cry of His servant. Surprisingly enough, there are family members who have been separated for years due to un-forgiveness, not talking to each other, no crossing each other’s paths but this is what Jesus said, Matthew 6:14-15 “14 For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15,”But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses“. Roots of bitterness and un-forgiveness will cause you to continue to have leprosy without being healed. Miriam had to confess and her brother had to cry out to God for her healing. Thank God for men like Moses who forgives and let’s go of what he should have been holding on to. Blessings Evans
