Dealing With Weeds In Our Lives, Evans Olang

Matthew 13:24-30, “24 Jesus told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. 25 But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away”

I can trace back to the book of Genesis to see how the enemy always steals from God’s people, and how he also plants stuff. If something is stolen, it may be easy to identify what is missing, however when something is planted, it takes time to grow and by the time you get to see the symptoms, the damage would have already been done.

Let us look at the weeds the enemy planted in the lives of God’s children Genesis 3:8, “Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, “You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” While man did not know what to plant in his life, God planted good seeds and everything was fine until Adam was absent (asleep) that the enemy sneaked in to plant weeds. I wonder why the serpent waited till Eve was alone. Anyway I see an indication of the husband being the protector, defender, fighter of the home. Standing for the truth and leading the family in the truth. And the first weeds I see in this verse, the enemy planted lies, confusion and doubt and immediately those weeds began to chock the truth they always lived by. Today many question the validity of God’s word especially about marriage (between a man and a woman, or about divorce, or how to raise children) many question “did God really say that?” or conclude that God did not mean it the way it appears. Look at how Joshua protected his family from allowing the enemy to plant weeds “as for me (Joshua) and my house, we will serve the Lord”, Joshua 24:15. There were evil weeds the enemy was planting in the lives of the Israelites and Joshua gave the people a choice as to who to serve (gain good seeds), then he mentioned to them about his stand, to stay awake and watch in order to protect his family from allowing the enemy to plant weeds. The enemy is cunning and if he can not take away from you, be ready because he will try to find ways to plant something else, mostly doubt.

In our world today even Christians have too many weeds growing in their lives, this has stunted growths in many lives. One of the greatest weed is deception, being deceived by strange doctrines that appear as truth. It’s not that enemy has taken the truth away from you, he has distorted the truth by planting something else that competed with the right seed and now you are wondering which of this is good seed and the weeds. A number nurture weeds they should get rid of and pay little or no attention to the good seeds. Adam and Eve were deceived and they could not tell what the truth was and what was a lie. That is the work of the enemy, if he can not steal it, he will plant something else.

What do we do when we see the weeds in our garden? Something to help us, One day while working on the front yard of my parents’ house, there were too many unwanted weeds growing on their yard, we had tried uprooting them before, but they came back. The reason they came back was because when you uproot, the seeds still remain and that is what begins to grow again. So I went to the store and found a spray that could ONLY KILL THE WEEDS WITHOUT DESTROYING the flowers planted. Not only would it kill the present growing weeds, it would kill even their unborn seeds. I did not have to be out there the whole day trying to pull them because I would also be destroying the flowers too. All I needed to do was spray and let the spray do its work. We have the truth of the WORD OF THE LAMB and spray on our gardens. Yes we have good seeds and weeds, and if we cannot identify the weeds, the truth will. If we are scared of damaging the good seeds while uprooting the weeds, the truth of the word will preserve the good seeds and destroy the weeds. If we fall asleep and the enemy plants weeds, do not think it is over, take the truth and spray it over your garden (family, job, position, ministry, while you drive), the weeds will die with their seeds too, and you will have another chance to grow stronger and blossom. To have weeds free garden, we are told in Revelation 12:11, “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony (truth of God’s word)”. Blessings Evans
