Romans Chapter 1 Study, Part 8of12, Evans Olang

Romans 1:1-31, “16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”

To pick up from where we left, let’s go back to Romans 1:21 and continue address the word “GLORY”. We sing and talk about the glory of God however I wonder what we know about it and if we have studied it.

Romans 1:21, “21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify (honor) Him as God”. To learn about God’s glory, we need to understand that God is HOLY (SET APART). I draw from John Piper about the glory of God, “Holy means that God is in a class of perfection and greatness and value by Himself. He is incomparable. His holiness is His utterly unique and perfect in divine essence. God’s holiness is the incomparable perfection and greatness of His divine nature; His glory is the display of that holiness. His glory is the open revelation of the secret of His holiness. When God shows Himself to be holy, what we see is His glory—the beauty of His holiness. The holiness of God is His concealed glory. The glory of God is His revealed holiness

We cannot give Him glory by adding to His perfection, but by praising His perfection. We glorify Him by praising His glory!. Men do not glory because their affections towards Him, and their awe and adoration of Him, did not keep pace with their knowledge of who God is. This is disorder that has brought about the rest of the plagues of sin.

Scripture continually calls upon believers to glorify the Lord. David admonishes us: “Ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due to His name” (Psalm. 29:1–11).

As the Westminster Shorter Catechism eloquently declares, “The chief end of man is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever.” Bible verses to support itRomans 15:6, “that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ”. 1 Corinthians 10:31, “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God”. “To the only wise God be glory forevermore through Jesus Christ! Amen. Philippians 2:11, “and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father”. Romans 11:36,” For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever”. Romans 16:27, “to God, alone wise, be glory through Jesus Christ forever. Amen”. Galatians 1:5, “to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen”. Ephesians 3:21, “to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen”. Philippians 4:20, “Now to our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen”, 2 Timothy 4:18, “And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work and preserve me for His heavenly kingdom. To Him be glory forever and ever. Amen!”

To quote John Piper again, “the glory of God is the infinite beauty and greatness of his manifold perfections”. May we glory in Him. Blessings Ev
