When You Don’t Know What To Do, Part 5of5, Evans Olang

2Chronicles 20:1-30, vs.12 “O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.”

Jehoshaphat with his people rose up to go to the battle field armed with nothing but faith. Faith was their armor. A man afraid of the enemy stood to encourage himself and his people with these words, vs. 20” …, “Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.” Instead of telling them to fight, he told them to believe God to be established and to believe His sent servants the prophets and they would prosper. This encouragement was not for one time event. That is true courage which faith inspires a man with; nor will any thing contribute more to the establishing of the heart in shaking times than a firm belief of the power, and mercy, and promise of God. Isaiah 26:3, “You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You”

Their response, vs. 21, “And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the Lord, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying:”. There is something about adding songs of praise to your faith. I believe songs keep faith a live as they remind you of who God is and what He is able to do. I have seen people sing when they were nervous which helped them calm down. Something happens when we sing praises to God in the midst of our situations. The world may teach you to sing and celebrate after the victory, here we are singing because He is Victorious. If they were not going to fight in this battle, they didn’t want to be spectators. They thought, “why not praise God for who He is, His goodness, His mercies, His faithfulness etc.” and the bible says, vs. 22 “Now when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated“. A big Amen. The moment they began to sing and praise the Lord, the Lord set an ambush against their enemies and caused them to destroy each other. If you come to a battle field where your fight is not required, break out into singing and praising God because breakthroughs also comes through praise and worship directed to God.

Vs. 24-29 “24 So when Judah came to a place overlooking the wilderness, they looked toward the multitude; and there were their dead bodies, fallen on the earth. No one had escaped 25 When Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away their spoil, they found among them an abundance of valuables on the dead bodies, and precious jewelry, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away; and they were three days gathering the spoil because there was so much. 26 And on the fourth day they assembled in the Valley of Berachah, for there they blessed the LORD; therefore the name of that place was called The Valley of Berachah until this day. 27 Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, with Jehoshaphat in front of them,to go back to Jerusalem with joy, for the LORD had made them rejoice over their enemies. 28 So they came to Jerusalem, with stringed instruments and harps and trumpets, to the house of the LORD. 29 And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries when they heard that the LORD had fought against the enemies of Israel”. They did not see the fight in the battle field, they only saw the results. They knew God had defeated their enemies. They received double for their trouble and they came back rejoicing for the Lord had given them victory over their enemies.1John 5:4, “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world our faith” Only God could be faithful to do what they couldn’t do and only God is faithful to do the same for us. Therefore call on Him, be vulnerable, set your eyes on Him, Heed to His word, have Faith, sing praises to His name. May we put to practice principles from 2Chronicles 20. Blessings Ev
