Jonah 1-4, “And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice” KJV
When you begin to read the book of Jonah, you discover that there is a specific task God gave Jonah to be completed. We are not told of who Jonah was, his calling, how he grew up. We are also not told of how he aged and died, we are only told of his assignment, his reaction and his action. I believe that there are certain times in life where God will give us an assignment. . Sometimes in 1998, I was given an assignment to pray for schools. During that time there was so much going on in schools and God laid a burden in some hearts including mine to seriously pray for schools. What I am saying is when God gives an assignment, He has already set up enough grace, strength and the ability for one to do it.
Chapter 1:1, “Now the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the son of Amittai saying, Arise, go to Nineveh, that city, great city and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me”. We are introduced to some neat things in just verse one to which we will break it down as time goes by. The word of the Lord is present meaning alive everyday. It’s always a now word for the Lord Himself is the Word. We hear Him introduce Himself as the “I AM” in the bible. Hebrews 4:12, “The word of the Lord is living and powerful…” we see it again as not a dead word or a word that will live but a word that is already living and this is the word that comes to Jonah. Number one point, the WORD coming, after the word comes, the first instruction in the word is ARISE. I would interpret as coming out of what someone has been in because of the word and making the first move by obeying the voice. Then GO which is to change locations by allowing a motion to take place.
The three, WORD, ARISE and GO are very familiar to us in the bible for we see the Lord constantly using them when getting ready to do something. He is always in the business of speaking and in His speaking there are clear instructions as to what is to be done. We also have this kind of calling in our lives where the word comes, we arise and we go. The bible says , “go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature”. We don’t hear “sit ye”, it says “go ye”. My flesh loves the “sit ye part” but that is not the instructions. The words of the Lord are always action (doing) words for He is constantly on the move, He is always doing something and we are part of these things He is doing. Ready to move? To continue, Blessings Ev
