“The battle is the Lord’s” Yes, in life, there are many situations, where God Himself does the war for us . He fights for us….At times, we see that when people are working against us, God warns them even through dreams
RECONCILIATION– Classic example is of Laban, the father in law of Jacob ,who was heading to harm Jacob but was warned in a dream …Jacob was running away with fear and agony from his father –in –law along with his wives, children and the acquired property since he was being ill-treated. Genesis 31:24 “Then God came to Laban , the Aramaean, in a dream at night and said to him “BE CAREFUL not to say anything to Jacob, either good or bad” We can imagine ourselves in this situation –very tensed , but God Himself intervening and warning our enemy, how marvelous it is. Yes, if we recede from fighting but allow God to do the same for us, we can see God planning and moving greatly … Usually, though we all know the verse well that the battle is the Lord’s , we take turn and try to fight it out ..But the plan may not be right and so is the timing and the approach. It may not even suit the situation correctly … If we rely on God to fight for us, we can see the results …Since Laban was warned he did not dare to do any harm to Jacob , though he was very angry. Laban mentions to Jacob in Gen 31:29 “I have the power to harm you”. Yes, though he had power and was heading to harm him, God fought the battle and finally safeguarded Jacob and everything he had….
SETTLEMENT– We see Mary, who was only a virgin and betrothed to Joseph, to be with child through the Holy Spirit. Joseph was shocked to hear about this, since they had not yet come together. Since he was a righteous man, he did not want to expose her to public disgrace. So he had in mind to divorce her quietly. ..But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said” Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son and you are to give him the name ‘Jesus’ because he will save his people from their sins”, Mathew 1 :19 So he took home Mary as his wife .We can imagine the situation of Mary. She never requested someone to pacify Joseph or convince him or speak to him by herself and what not. There were so many ways for Mary to fight the life’s real battle…She completely depended on the Almighty for every minute details happening in her life …. God was mindful of the humble state of His servant and set right, this marriage, rather home …Yes, God is capable of settling our lives, no matter how many fears /doubts arise. If we trust the Lord for our battle, we can be rest assured.
TESTIMONY-Another instance where God speaks to the wife of a person in authority…….. Pilate was seated a judge and when he was about to pronounce judgment on Jesus, his wife sent for him this message “Do not have anything to do with that INNOCENT man for I have suffered a great deal today in a dream because of him “.Yes , when Jesus was facing opposition from all sides –all the people in the area were shouting against Jesus, but this testimony gave comfort to our Lord…May be if any other person would have conveyed this message, he would not have considered. But it was his dear wife. So God gave him an opportunity to realize the greatness of Jesus before he could decide whether to release Jesus or Barabbas.
GUIDANCE-Peter saw heaven opened ,while he fell into a trance, and also saw something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. It contained all kinds of four footed animals, as well as reptiles of the earth and birds of the air. Then God corrected Peter in his thoughts saying “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean” Yes, he was guided to go to Cornelius, where he along with his friends and relatives assembled. The Holy Spirit had been poured out on all of them.
A dream may look simple but if God could use it to convey His message, He can do anything for His people. Even when the king himself forgot the dream he had, the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a vision. Yes, the God had used a dream as a means to warn Laban while heading to harm Jacob and to reconcile them, to show Joseph the factual situation and build the home, which was going to be shattered, to inform Pilate that Jesus was Lord and totally innocent/blameless/pure, to correct Peter so that he should go to the Gentiles to preach the goodness, to exalt Daniel before the king and his entire kingdom.
So we need worry for any situation because He can warn our enemies in face of danger and safeguard us, he can fabricate /put together broken homes, He can prove a person innocent, when the entire world is against the same and He can also correct us so that we may be used for His higher purposes. What a mighty God we serve ! Praise Him that He is the same yesterday, today and forever. We are all privileged to be children of this great and awesome God! By Sarah Susan
