2Samuel 7:8, “Now then, tell my servant David, ‘This is what the LORD Almighty says: I took you from the pasture and from following the flock to be ruler over my people Israel”

God has a unique way of reminding us how He called us and raised us up for His purposes. God speaks through Nathan the prophet to David and he begins by reminding David of where God found him: “I took you from the pasture and from following [tending] the flock.” Who knew David in the pasture? His influence spread as far as his last sheep at that time. David was learning character and how to lead others (at that time sheep). However, although God makes correlations between sheep and people, they are obviously not exactly the same, as you and I are made in God’s image. God was reminding David how far he had come from. Proverbs 27:5-6, “Better is open rebuke them hidden love. Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses”
