Do You Hear What I Hear? Pastor Phil Sessa

Matthew 1:18-20, “18 This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. 19 Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. 20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit ”.

In this day and age there are a lot of voices speaking, but none as important as the voice of the Lord.

Distraction Shifts Focus, Evans Olang

Luke 10:38-42, “40 But Martha was DISTRACTED with MUCH serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.” 41 And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. 42 But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

If each of us was to take time to closely look at our lives, we will find that we have too many distractions. And distractions bring about detachment, moving your attention away from what you should be concentrating on, very important things. Sometimes we get distracted even by good things but not necessary at a given time. Read the rest of this entry »

A Resurrection Of Offense, Pastor Phil Sessa

John 12:9-11, “9 Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead. 10 But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death; 11 Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus”

A pastor saw a young lady in his church after a summer time of her being away. Upon coming back from her vacation, the pastor noticed that her stomach was quite large. He thought that her and her husband were obviously going to have a baby and therefore said, “You’re starting to show.” However she replied, “I’m not pregnant”. Needless to say the woman was very offended, in which time that the Pastor said, “I’m sorry, I’ll perhaps need you to forgive me seventy times seven for that one insensitive comment.” Read the rest of this entry »

Proverbs Thirty One Woman, Part 3of3, Evans Olang

Proverbs 31:10-30, “Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, But a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.”

A virtuous woman is a woman of destiny, Proverbs 31:25, “Strength and honor are her clothing and she shall rejoice in time to come”. Everything she is doing is to bringing her strength and honor and it’s not because she is trying to build herself a name but because her character has placed her in a position where people honor and respect her, and therefore she has a destiny that will cause her to rejoice. Mary the mother of Jesus becomes a woman of destiny for she is favored among women to carry a precious seed that will one day save the entire world. Read the rest of this entry »

Proverbs 31:10-30, “Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, But a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.”

A virtuous woman is a woman of Obedience, Proverbs 31:11&12, “The heart of her husband safely trust her; so he will have no lack again, she does him good and not evil all the days of her life.” There is a proverb that says obedience is better than sacrifice and we see this in the life of Ruth. She left her home where she worshiped pagan gods and followed Naomi who was her mother in law before she lost her son (husband to Ruth). Read the rest of this entry »

Proverbs 31:10-30, “Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, But a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.”

These three part series is an encouragement to godly women and learning experience to godly men about godly women. I have learnt a lot watching my wife, the women in my ministry, my mom, some of the ladies I discipled back in the days. My learning enables me to treat and pray for them effectively. The intercessory prayer ministry my wife and I were involved with, 95% were ladies. Read the rest of this entry »

A Troubled Herod, Wise Magi, And A Triumphant Christ, Pastor Phil Sessa

Matthew 2:2-3, “When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born.”

When I read this verse what troubled me was what would cause Herod and all Jerusalem with him to be troubled? To answer that we have to look at a few aspects including who Herod was, how he came to rule, and how the Magi were connected to all of this all during the perfect timing of the birth of God’s Son.
