John

Right Hand Of Fellowship, Evans Olang

Galatians 2:1-10, vs. “8 (for he who worked through Peter for his apostolic ministry to the circumcised worked also through me for mine to the Gentiles), 9 and when James and Cephas and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given to me, they gave the right hand of fellowship to Barnabas and me, that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised.” ESV

Who we link arms with is very important because who we are, what we believe, what we stand for can partly be traced to those we link ourselves with. One popular example, in the last few years there has been a drive for unity for a common cause in many areas with Evangelical and Catholics Together (ECT).

In The Beginning, Evans Olang

Genesis 1:1,”In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”, John 1:1-5, vs. 1, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”

To read the bible, you have to believe everything that is written. There are people including Christians who choose what they can believe in the bible and reject the rest. In their mind, they don’t see how such and such a thing could happen and so they sum it up as good stories to teach us something but not necessarily what happened. How many people find it hard to believe God parting the red sea or Noah and the ark? They conclude they are too good to be true. For me to understand that all things are possible, I have to go back to the beginning.

Genesis starts with this line, “In the beginning GOD…” and In the gospel according to John, he does not begin with Jesus’ birth, or his genealogy or the beginning of his ministry, he takes us back to creation. Read the rest of this entry »

Confronting Sons Of Thunder Mentality, Evans Olang

Mark 10:35-37, “35 Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to Him, saying, “Teacher, we want You to do for us whatever we ask.” 36 And He said to them, “What do you want Me to do for you?” 37 They said to Him, “Grant us that we may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on Your left, in Your glory.”

In talking about the disciples, there is no one’s life detailed as that of Peter followed by that of James and John the sons of Zebedee. Interestingly, when Jesus called these two brother’s to be His disciples, He gave them the name Boarnerges which means Sons of Thunder, (Mark 3:17) because of their fiery temperaments. It appears that this is the only place in scripture where they were referred to by this title. Read the rest of this entry »

Have The Mind Of Christ, Evans Olang

James 1:8, “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways”

We always want clear sense of direction when making major decisions. There are times we seek advice in situations to help us make better judgments. From my experience, it’s very dangerous to make hasty decision without weighing things. People can advise and give guidance, making decision is your responsibility. Read the rest of this entry »

Freed Indeed, Evans Olang

John 8:36, “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed”

Can born again Christians be demon possessed? It is not possible. Christians don’t get demon possessed, however they can be demon oppressed and influenced. What is the difference between the two? to be possessed is to be owned by someone or to be controlled, dominated, in other words, be a master’s slave. Born again Christians are not owned or mastered by demons, they do not belong to the devil, 1John 4:4, “Ye are of God little children and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you than he (demons) that is in the world“. We are of God, automatically we have overcome them. Though we can’t fight or have no strength to fight, Him present in us is enough to scare the demonic forces, why? James 2:29, “You believe that there is one God; You do well. Even the demons believe and tremble”. The battle is not primarily against a believer but the truth a believer possesses, fighting God in a believer. Read the rest of this entry »

Marks Of A Disciple, Part 1of3, Pastor Phil Sessa

John 13:34-35, “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”

How can one tell if someone is a fan of a particular sports team? Perhaps if one wears a
teams clothing, jersey, hat, etc…. However if I put on a NY Yankee jersey does that mean that I am on the NY Yankees? Of course not! How then can one know if one is a disciple of Christ? Well one way to know Jesus said is that His disciples would have love one to another.

Who Chose Who? Evans Olang

1Samuel 9:1-20, “3 Now the donkeys of Kish, Saul’s father, were lost. And Kish said to his son Saul, “Please take one of the servants with you, and arise, go and look for the donkeys. 4 So he passed through the mountains of Ephraim and through the land of Shalisha, but they did not find them. Then they passed through the land of Shaalim, and they were not there. Then he passed through the land of the Benjamites, but they did not find them.”

I recently spent time studying this passage to see it’s parallel to salvation. In preaching the gospel, we must have a starting point. The starting point is crucial to the outcome of the message. The gospel message that starts with man will ultimately put God on the stand and judge Him as the bad one. The gospel message that starts with God will definitely put man on the stand, this is the way it should be.
