Right Hand Of Fellowship, Evans Olang

Galatians 2:1-10, vs. “8 (for he who worked through Peter for his apostolic ministry to the circumcised worked also through me for mine to the Gentiles), 9 and when James and Cephas and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given to me, they gave the right hand of fellowship to Barnabas and me, that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised.” ESV

Who we link arms with is very important because who we are, what we believe, what we stand for can partly be traced to those we link ourselves with. One popular example, in the last few years there has been a drive for unity for a common cause in many areas with Evangelical and Catholics Together (ECT).

Confronting Sons Of Thunder Mentality, Evans Olang

Mark 10:35-37, “35 Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to Him, saying, “Teacher, we want You to do for us whatever we ask.” 36 And He said to them, “What do you want Me to do for you?” 37 They said to Him, “Grant us that we may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on Your left, in Your glory.”

In talking about the disciples, there is no one’s life detailed as that of Peter followed by that of James and John the sons of Zebedee. Interestingly, when Jesus called these two brother’s to be His disciples, He gave them the name Boarnerges which means Sons of Thunder, (Mark 3:17) because of their fiery temperaments. It appears that this is the only place in scripture where they were referred to by this title. Continue reading “Confronting Sons Of Thunder Mentality, Evans Olang”

Overcoming Temptation, Kefa Olang

1Corinthians 10:13, “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation, He will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it (ESV)

This past Sunday’s teaching on temptation, one of the things James emphasizes, was enlightening, challenging, and eye opening. Not only is temptation the cause of all trials and tribulations experienced since the beginning of time, daily, it’s our spirits’ greatest nemesis. In fact, Paul highlights this battle in Galatians 5:17, where he discusses the unending conflict between the spirit and the flesh. Although temptations’ power is present everywhere we go, as Christians, we take comfort in knowing that we have power over it Continue reading “Overcoming Temptation, Kefa Olang”

Have The Mind Of Christ, Evans Olang

James 1:8, “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways”

We always want clear sense of direction when making major decisions. There are times we seek advice in situations to help us make better judgments. From my experience, it’s very dangerous to make hasty decision without weighing things. People can advise and give guidance, making decision is your responsibility. Effective Praying, Part 2of4, Evans Olang

James 5:16, “…The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much”

What comes out of our mouths in prayer reveals what’s in our mind and heart when we pray. Have you ever asked yourself while praying, how would Jesus pray in and for a situation like the one you are praying for? Philippians 2:5, “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,” to have the mind of Christ will drive away any of our selfish desires that we may pray the heart of God in a situation rather than our own. Effective Praying, Part 1of4, Evans Olang

James 5:16, “…The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much”

Many times I’m asked to keep someone in prayers for financial breakthrough, healing, salvation, protection among others. And what a blessing to bring such needs before the Lord and I always do. A few years back the Lord began to deal with me about praying for needs, something bigger than what I was used to praying. Hope I can lay some groundwork first and then give examples from the bible about effective praying that avails much. Continue reading “Effective Praying, Part 1of4, Evans Olang”

Bring It Under His Control, Evans Olang

James 3:1-18, “But no man can tame the tongue…”

The tongue has landed so many people into trouble. As much as what people do destroy, what people say can do even a greater damage and it’s because what has been done may quickly heal unlike what has been said stays in the memory. Friendships have been broken due to what came out of the tongue. Husbands and wives have ended up in great fights because of the tongue.  Continue reading “Bring It Under His Control, Evans Olang”

A Perfect Christian, Pastor Boaz Olang

Matthew 5:48, “Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.”

Is there such thing as perfect Christian in this world full of temptation, sin, evil and error? Can Christians truly and honestly become perfect? Is perfection attainable in this life? Does God truly and seriously expect or want Christians to be perfect? And if Christians can be perfect, which is the easiest or quickest and sure way to attaining perfection, if it is attainable? A Patient Of Patience, Evans Olang

James 1:4, “But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing”

To walk with God, patience is a must or else you will not last long with God. As I walk with the Lord, I am learning that God is not in a hurry. If anything, He takes time to do things. Whatever He is doing is not just for today and tomorrow, He is doing it for days to come. He is building His people who will stand through time. I am amazed how some Christians want things yesterday. They get saved today, tomorrow they are dying to be on talk shows teaching everyone how to get saved. Many are anxious to be recognized and entrusted with positions and when it does not happen within their time frame, they get angry and leave. In church if their talents are not recognized, they change churches. Such people do not make it long with God. Such people want God to fit in their schedule and God is not going to. Either you are in His program or you are alone. Continue reading “A Patient Of Patience, Evans Olang”
