Genesis 4:10, “Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?” He said, “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?” And He said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground.”

The first sin committed horizontally (human to human) is the sin of murder. Cain and Abel both brought an offering to the Lord and the Lord respected Abel and his offering, but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell. Cain instantly became upset because God did not respect what h he brought him. God knowing this didn’t try to boost his self-esteem, but rather asked him three questions. First God asked, “Why are you angry?” Secondly, “why has your countenance fallen?” Thirdly, “If you do well, will you not be accepted?” Now whenever God asks a question it is never because He doesn’t know the answer, because God is omniscient (all knowing).

Deuteronomy 1:37, “The Lord was angry with me for your sakes, saying even you shall not go in there”

In Exodus 17:6, Moses is leading the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt to the promise land. He is leading a people who have not stopped complaining from day one even up to this every moment. Many times God wanted to kill the children of Israel because of their complains and murmuring but Moses kept on pleading with God. On this day in Exodus 17, the people had just complained as usual about something they were lacking. Already God had given them everything they cried for and this time they needed water. Instead of looking to God, they began to reflect on how they would have been satisfied in Egypt.

Ephesians 4:32, the Bible says, “Be compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you” (NIV1984).


When should we forgive and finally let go? How should we do it? Does the offender even need to know that you forgave him? Whenever these questions start to haunt you, it may be an indication that the Lord is stirring up a spirit of forgiveness. Now don’t get me wrong; this does not mean you’ll wake up one morning to a chorus of “Oh Happy Day,” smiling at the birds chirping, feeling all happy and dandy saying, “yes! yes, I have forgiven my offender, and I am finally letting go.”

At one time or another, we have all struggled with letting go of the past. This resonates even deeper if emotions were tied to a specific incident. We have all held on to things that have crippled, consumed, and literally sucked the life out of us. Betrayals, regrets, bad choices, emotional, and even physical hurt generally make up the past’s lexicon. More often than not, for many, the past is usually married to un-forgiveness.

The subject on faith is very important, but what kind of faith? We need faith for sure, however we need faith that works. In this message we will look at the faith we truly need. The opening verse in chapter 17:1 reads, “Then He said to the disciples, “It is impossible that no offenses should come, but woe to him through whom they do come! “. I highlight the word “IMPOSSIBLE” because it sets in motion what kind of faith we need.

It’s tough to be in a situation that takes away your freedom and limits you to what you can and cannot do. Some we bring upon ourselves and some find us. Regardless of their origination, the results are still the same, expect limitations.

Just to add from “God Defends His Chosen” message, Yahweh’s revelation to Moses was unique. It was direct (plainly) and immediate (face to face); the prophets’ revelations were mediated forms. The clear lesson is that even prophets cannot presume to claim that their message is equal to that of the scriptures. Prophesies do not have the equal authority the bible has. Some prophesies have failed, God’s word has never failed.

Forgiveness is typically defined as the process of ceasing to feel resentment, indignation or anger for a perceived offense, difference or mistake, and ceasing to demand punishment or restitution. To clear from guilt justified by a fault.

Forgiveness is a very powerful word yet it’s also a very hard thing to do. To forgive and to be forgiven have such great weights. I heard of a story of a man who was involved in killing the Jews in the days of Hitler. What he did resonated in his mind every single day and as he got closer to his death, he sought to find peace by looking for any Jew who would find in his heart to forgive him of his crime. He sought forgiveness diligently. It was hard to find anyone who could pronounce him forgiven.
