Profiting From Trials, Evans Olang

2Corinthians 4:7, “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory,”

The new year has began, not everyone has began it on a good note. My family for one is in a trying period having finished the year with one only to open with another. The reality is that we live in a fallen world full of pain and suffering, however we as believers can be different from the world by learning to profit from trials.

When it comes to afflictions/trials, three men in new testament tells us how we should respond to them. James encourages us to count it all joy. Paul encourages to consider them light. Peter on the other hand encourages us not to think them strange. Only the grace of God enables us to speak and live in the light of such words with confidence. Read the rest of this entry »

Snatching Them From The Fire, Pastor Phil Sessa

Jude 22-23, “Be merciful to those who doubt; snatch others from the fire and save them; to others show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.”

I once watched a movie Volcano starring Tommy Lee Jones about a volcano that erupts in downtown L.A. I began to meditate on one scene in particular whereby a group of firemen are down in the subway rescuing unconscious people that were aboard a train. Read the rest of this entry »

Confidence In God, Evans Olang

Psalm 118:8, “It is better to trust in the Lord than to put your confidence in man”image

Life is a long and bumpy road. We each carry our troubles, like heavy load. There are many hard turns and some dead ends. However whenever we are stuck, we must know whom look to. Think of the elections, majority put their confidence in the next president hoping he will turn things around.

The scripture verse above is right in the middle of the bible. I would call it the heartbeat of every man who understands what life is. When I look at a scripture, I tend to pick out a word or two to understand why the author chose to use those particular words. In this case, the author used the word “Confidence” instead of “Faith” and my first reaction was, is there any difference? Let’s start with “faith”, faith is trust, belief and confidence. Does God Have a Need? Pastor Phil Sessa

Posted on Updated on

Psalm 145:16, “You open Your hand, And satisfy the desire of every living thing”

As a science teacher I have taught my students that all life has basic needs. Most living things need food, water, air, and living space (shelter). I’ve heard it said in the context of marriage that man has a need for respect that can be satisfied by a man’s wife. Similarly, women have a need for emotional love that can be fulfilled by her husband (see Ephesians 5). Read the rest of this entry »

Daring Faith, Part 2of2, Evans Olang

Matthew 14:22-33, “28 And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” 29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.

I love reading about Peter, he was a regular guy like any of us. He had weakness and strengths. Peter was an ordinary fisherman who walked with Jesus. His walk with Christ changed his life and I don’t believe anyone can walk with Christ and not be changed. Read the rest of this entry »

Daring Faith, Part 1of2, Evans Olang

Matthew 14:22-33, “28 And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” 29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.

The subject of faith is often preached on, taught and abused at the same time. The many faith teachings are more about what God can do for you financially and health wise. And if you’ve listened to the same, be enlightened that there is more to faith than that. Teachings on faith today mostly dwell on the byproducts of faith. We find that often times too many of us have enough faith for breadcrumbs and not enough for a whole loaf, what He has promised. Faith enough to get us by and nothing to challenge us to grow more faith in God. Read the rest of this entry »

Increase Our Faith, Evans Olang

Luke 17, vs. ,”5 – And the apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.”

The subject on faith is very important, but what kind of faith? We need faith for sure, however we need faith that works. In this message we will look at the faith we truly need. The opening verse in chapter 17:1 reads, “Then He said to the disciples, “It is impossible that no offenses should come, but woe to him through whom they do come! “. I highlight the word “IMPOSSIBLE” because it sets in motion what kind of faith we need.
