He Called Me What I’m Not, Part 4of4, Evans Olang

Judges 6:11-40&7:1-25, “…The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor”

Judges 6:33, “Then all the Medianites and Amelikites, the people of the East, gathered together; they crossed over and encamped in the Valley of Jezreal” you read of these people camping somewhere in readiness to attack Gideon and his people, vs. 34&35, “But the Spirit of the Lord came upon Gideon; then he blew the trumpet, and the Abiezrites gathered behind him, and he sent messengers throughout all Manasseh…Asher, Zebulun, and Naphtali; they came to meet him”. I’m beginning to see a different Gideon for the first time since we started talking about him. Remember how he would hide when he knew that their enemies were coming. We read of the Spirit of God coming upon him, he begins to exercise the calling for what He was not, now He is because of the Spirit of God. When the Spirit of the Lord comes upon you, He empowers you to become what He had called you to be which is a sign that you will take less and do much with it.

Gideon was now a leader gathering all 5tribes to listen to him. I ask myself, don’t the tribes know who he was and how he came from the smallest family in Israel? well let’s be reminded that the Favor of the Lord would cause you to be favored by many. I saw it when Jesus arriving in Jerusalem riding on a donkey, people were casting their garments, leaves, robes and cloaks on the ground that the donkey (favored donkey) would ride on it. Now let’s not get over heel thinking that when we see them do the same before us that they are doing it for us, they are actually doing it for the Man who sits on the donkey and to us the Man who sits inside. 1John 4:4, “Ye are of God, ye little children for you have overcome them, for greater is He that lives inside of you than He that lives in the world”. I know we have used this line “than he that lives in the world” in reference to the devil but let’s look at it again, greater is He who lives inside of me than us who live in the world. He who lives me is greater than I.

Let’s jump to Chapter 7:2, “And the Lord said to Gideon, “The people who are with you are too many for Me to give the Medianites into their hands, lest Israel claim glory for itself against me, saying, ‘My own hand saved me”. The 5 tribes he gathered resulted to 33000 people ready to fight. He believed that the greater the number, the greater the victory. I have been in positions where I knew God was doing and He did not use what I thought He would. Please don’t start loosing heart because what you thought the Lord was going to use in your life is actually contrary to what He had in mind. Many who had dreams and visions for their lives and Spirit of the Lord was upon them discovered the Lord chose to go a different direction. God always has a perfect plan.

Judges 7:3, “Now therefore, proclaim in the hearing of the people, saying, “whoever is fearful and afraid, let him turn and depart…” And 22 thousand of the people returned and ten thousand remained. The victory would not rest on numbers but trust in the Lord. Psalm 118:8, “It’s better to trust in the Lord than to put you confidence in man”,. In response to the big number, the Lord responded to him vs. 4, “… “The people are still too many; bring them down to the water, and I will test them for you there…” Vs 5, “So he brought the people down to the water. And the Lord said to Gideon, “Everyone who laps from the water with his tongue, as a dog laps, you shall set a part by himself; likewise everyone who gets down on his knees to drink, vs. 6, “And the number of those who lapped, putting their hand to their mouth was 300 men” and the rest were sent back home. This always come back to me, Mathew 22:14, “For many are called but few are chosen” 33,000 men were called, only 300 men were chosen. Those who lapped like a dog, they were the right people for the job, they were not ashamed to make a fool out of themselves before the Lord, they were cautious because as they scoop the water and lap out of the hands, their eyes were set to see if the enemy was coming, they were the type of people God knows that whatever He tells them to do, they would obey, they had the same spirit Gideon had. These are FAT people, (Faithful, Available and Teachable)

Do you want to be used of God? Then be FAT, you have to be faithful in serving the Lord, you have to be available to be used and you need to be willing to be taught. Blessings Ev
