This Is The Will Of God…, Evans Olang

1Thessalonians 5:16-18, “16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you”

These three verses are short, however they are weighty. If I was to write a paper on these three, I may end up with a book.

In looking at the few verses in 1Thessalonians 5, I realize that many times we look at vs.18 in reference to the will of God. That it’s God’s will that we give Him thanks in everything. Note that the bible does not say to give Him thanks “FOR”. It’s while we are “IN” it that we give thanks. Now look at vs. 16 and 17 how they are punctuated and see that there is more to it. The bible says, vs. “16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks”. If you ever struggle to know what the will of God is for your life, think on these three because I believe they are the foundation of knowing God’s will and should not miss in a believer’s life, 1. Rejoice always 2. Pray without ceasing 3. In everything give thanks. You can never miss His will if you remember these three. Not only do these three help us understand the foundation of the will of God in our lives, it drives the devil nuts.

If the enemy’s mission is to kill, steal and destroy (John 10:10), the believers mission should be rejoice, pray, and give thanks. How can Satan break someone who is constantly rejoicing in all things, praying without giving up and in everything always giving thanks? Satan wants you to reject God when things are not going right, he wants you to be depressed and moody, he wants you to complain and be grumpy but those who know their God will not fall for his tricks. They will remember that God is in control always and will let them deal with more than they can handle. Paul says 2Timothy 1:12 “For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I KNOW whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day”

I can rejoice because I know in who I believe in. I can pray without ceasing because I know He is more than able. In everything I can give thanks because I am in a position to learn, grow, be stronger knowing there is a reason why He has allowed me to be in a situation. I recall one morning when getting ready to go to work, while checking car oil, my car electronically locked the doors, to make the matters worse, that was my ONLY set of car keys locked in the car. Oh how I should have been upset and frustrated on a cold morning trying to figure out what I would do. Anyway, I calmed myself down, rejoiced in it however hard it was, prayed for wisdom and gave thanks. The enemy would have loved to see my flip but he did not see it happen. Anyway, with God’s wisdom, as I was trying different things to see if I could open it, believe it or not, by God’s grace I was able to open it in 15 mins (last time even the police could not open it up). That’s providence from the Lord when I needed it the most. I came to work rejoicing even more. Praises be to God. In all things, remember the foundation of God’s will for every believer.

Keep rejoicing, keep praying, keep giving thanks, this is the will of God. Blessings Ev
