Matthew 13:24-25, “24 Another parable He put forth to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; 25 but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way.”
In the last message, I mentioned that there are three spheres that affect our prayer lives 1. THE REASON TO PRAY, 2. THE POWER TO PRAY, 3.THE HOW TO PRAY. We shared on the first two, we finish with the last but not least The How To Pray.
Right from the start, I want to point out that Prayer is not primarily a means to get us stuff, things. Prayer is a means to get believers be conformed to the image of Christ. Matthew 6:33. “Prayer is the greatest of all forces, it honors God and brings Him into active aid”, E.M. Bounds. “The priority of prayer in Jesus life, the great majority of His words dealt with one thing, a passion for God to be glorified throughout the world”, Paul Washer. Prayer is about PASSION, zeal, drive, hunger, burden to make God’s NAME GREAT (GLORY OF GOD) and ADVANCE His KINGDOM and not ours.
Then how to we honor God and be conformed in our prayers? We first look how the disciples who had watched their Master’s prayer life asked Him to teach them to pray. Luke 11:1, “One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.” They never asked Jesus to teach them to preach or perform miracles, they asked be taught how to pray and Jesus gave them what is commonly called “the Lord’s prayer” which in actuality is the “Disciples Prayer”. This would not be their daily prayer to be recited but a model, a structure, a guideline, a skeleton, the backbone by which effective power prayer would be. Sadly enough, many believers have never taken time to utilize God given guidance to praying effectively. I tackle on the blog this subject extensively in the Series “Lord Teach Us To Pray”, however allow me to do a drive through on how to utilize it.
OUR FATHER WHICH ART IN HEAVEN, – We acknowledge who God is, our relationship and His dwelling place.
HALLOWED BE THY NAME, – We ascribe His name and greatness (the desire to make His name great, magnifying His name)
THY KINGDOM COME, – Our only one reason is to advance His kingdom, Romans 14:17, Colossians 3, Psalm 89:14, Ephesians 1:17-. Bringing Glory to His name by living in the light of His kingdom.
THY WILL BE DONE IN EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN – Our desire is to completely yield to God in obedience, to His leading. When your will is in conflict with His will, you abandon your will and yield to His, Psalm 40:8, Psalm 143:10
GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD –Our greatest desire is a hunger for the word Job 23:12, Desire the word 1Peter 2:2, study the word 2Timothy 2:15, hide His word, Psalm 119:11, let his word lead you Psalm 119:105. When this becomes our priority, God will add to us the other needs we have.
AND FORGIVES US OUR DEBTS AS WE FORGIVE OUR DEBTORS, – Craving to be made whole (sanctification) and as we are sanctified, that we become to our brothers who Christ is to us by forgiving and being forgiven.
AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION, – Temptations/trials serve God’s sovereign purposes, it reveals what we are made off. They are part of our pruning and education. 1Corinthians 10:13.
BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL. – James 4:7-8, “ Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded; 2Corinthians 10:4
FOR THINE IS THE KINGDOM, AND THE POWER, AND THE GLORY, FOR EVER. AMEN (KJV) It begins with God and ends with God for His glory. God is the glorious end. “God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him”, Pastor John Piper
Know the reason to pray, the power to pray and how to pray then let us pray for our spiritual growth, families, our church leaders, congregation, nation, city, jobs, persecuted church…
