Psalm 27:1-14, “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord”
The division of Psalm 27 mention a number of things the Psalmist describes what the Lord is to him. The first verse he tells us that the Lord is his light, then his salvation, a strong hold, he mentions the beauty of the Lord, his helper and also mentions the goodness of the Lord. It’s hard to have a hero without knowing his strengths especially when you depend on him, in our case our Hero is Jesus but like David we got to know who He is to us. Many cannot move because they do not know or understand what the Almighty God is capable of handling and if that is not enough, they do not understand when they can call on the Lord, they are unaware if it’s too late or too early to believe God for something. Psalm 46:1 reads, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble”. This verse alone sums it up, for one, God is our refuge . We have enemies and overwhelming things but the Lord is our refuge, a hiding place. Not only is He our refuge, He is also “our strength” for He lives in us. We are going in His strength and not anyone’s. He is also “present” any time, all the time, never will He leave, He is always with us. He says, “Lo I will be with you always” and then He is “our help” in trouble and who does not face troubles?
With this established, David tells us in verse 1&2, “The Lord is my light and my salvation-whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life- of whom shall I be afraid?” It is very important to personalize what the Lord is to you instead of generalizing. When we generalize, we feel like He can do it for others but us. When we understand who God is to us, we can confidently refer to Him us our light and salvation. The Psalmists knows that he has enemies and an army stationed against him, but with God on his side, he is set even if there are more armies against him. 1Timothy 1:12, …For I am persuaded that He is able…” meaning I am more than convinced that He can and He will so I will be confident not in myself but in Him.
Psalm 27:4, “One thing I have desired of the LORD, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD, And to inquire in His temple” It’s easy to believe God and do nothing , here we have a psalmist who believes God and puts his faith in God by seeking Him. Seeking the Lord removes all the fears and doubts for the presence of the Lord like a fire which consumes everything including that which is wet. When Elijah called fire from heaven, though we know it’s hard for fire to consume water and stones, the fire of God consumed everything. When we seek God, His fire will come down and consume the stones of pride in our lives, stones of doubt, and everything that will try and put off the fire. Yes He is around all the time and many times you may not feel Him but seeking Him reveals the God who is present. Then he says, “That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life”. I wonder if all desire to be in the house of the Lord forever. The house of the Lord is a type of Ship that sails on top of the world is sinking in. The Ark, a type of church preserved Noah and his family in the flood. The church is a place of refuge, yes we can meet God everywhere but I found that there is such a greater connection when I am in His house. David loved the house of the Lord that he gives this line to us in Psalms 84:10, “For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand elsewhere, I’d rather be a door keeper in the house of the Lord than to dwell in the tents of the wickedness”. Imagine one day in the house of the Lord is better than days going to parties, camping, vacation. “To behold the beauty of the LORD, And to inquire in His temple”. Behold is to view, observe, see, watch or take a look at the beauty of the Lord, His holiness, His Majestic splendor, His Excellency, how precious, gracious, merciful, powerful, present. The beauty of the Lord we behold when we come to seek Him. It’s in the process of beholding His beauty that we discover even more, He is Yahweh who has no beginning or end, He has no birth dates and He does no need for anything to make Him complete for He is complete within Himself lacking nothing. In 1John 3:2, “…for we shall see Him as He is”, not as we perceive of Him or thought of Him but as HE IS. I found that the more I behold His beauty, the more all my fears, doubt, confusion ran away for everything knows who is in control. Seek Him that you may see Him as HE IS. To finish. Blessings Ev
