Acts 1:8, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
This series focus has been on the spirit of one being passed on to another. It started off with Elijah and Elisha, then Moses, and it can certainly go on and on. Training people is a key element if one wants their legacy to live. Military leaders train soldiers to engage enemies in war, and place their lives on the line if need be. How does a man convince another man to be in a place that bullets are flying all around? The twelve had the best training, by the greatest communicator ever, Jesus Himself. However there was one element missing and Jesus said that He would have to leave for another to come upon them. They needed the Spirit of Christ to be in them, as He would illuminate all that Jesus taught them. Jesus sends His Spirit to rest upon the disciples and the others in the Upper Room. Jesus was forthright and confident telling them, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you…” There was no question in the mind of the Master, this was going to happen!. If they were going to do God’s work, God’s Spirit upon their lives was a necessity. They were going to make sure that the Gospel would reach the world. It was by this very Spirit that the blind eyes were opened, that the deaf ears were released, the dumb could speak, the lame could walk, the sick were made whole, and even the dead were raised!
If we are to win the lost to Christ it must be done through the power of the Spirit of God. The Spirit of Christ is a Spirit that compels us to love our neighbor as ourselves enough to share our faith with them. There are many unsaved people that will spend eternity in Hell, because the Holy Spirit is not in their lives. How does that rest with you? If His spirit is in you it will shine out of you. Do you have His Spirit in you?
1. Jerusalem will have a witness. Those in closest proximity to you will hear the Gospel because of you. Perhaps speaking to your family and friends about the things of God seems like a grueling task. Who else is going to tell them? Do you love them enough to swallow pride, fear, etc…, and share the truth with them? If you haven’t already, why not tell them today!
2. Judea and Samaria will have a witness. “Social outcasts” are around. Will you reach out to those ones that nobody else would reach out to? Did Jesus only reach out to those hanging on His every Word, or did He even reach out to Judas? Do you touch the untouchables?
3. The ends of the earth will have a witness. I personally recommend to everyone go on at least one mission’s trip in their life. The Gospel knows no bounds. Where have you taken it, where will you take it?
