Who We Are In Christ, Evans Olang

Philippians 4:11, “…, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content”

I always find it exciting when I discover something new. Electronics always fascinate me. When I discover more of what they can do than what I anticipated brings a smile on my face. Of course there are times I have had something for so long, limited it’s use because I did not know it could do more and I wondered why I did not discover this a head of time, I could have made use of it long time ago. We as Christians also know what we can do, how about those times we are unable to discover what we are made of because we have not learnt to unlock them?

You and I cannot know what we are made of until we try things for ourselves or are tried in some areas. The reason why I have discovered more of what some gadgets could do was by trying. Yes there are times they broke but not always. We have people in our congregations that do not know what they are made of and for that reason, they have never learnt the art of trying things out to know what has been deposited in them or they have overlooked what they have and dismissed it as something of no use. David had no problem trying things out and learning what he was made of. He ran after a bear and killed it and so was a lion. Facing Goliath was nothing to him, he knew whose he belonged to therefore he added faith to what he was about to do and stepped out to do it. That was his key to victory with the testimony more reflecting on God who enabled him than himself. This is the reason why I believe when he was being anointed the next king, there is no hint of him saying he did not feel able, again not resting on his own ability. I believe it’s hard to unlock the hidden treasures without stepping out and trying them.

Paul writing to the Philippians in chapter 4 talks about their generosity towards him. The Philippian church was one of the churches that supported Paul’s ministry and right from the beginning, Paul had tried and had been tried in areas where he learnt what he was made of. He had survived ship wrecks, had been stoned and left for dead, worked (made tents) and did ministry at the same time, he made long trip journeys, I believe at times he went without and this is what he unlocked in all that he dealt with, “contentment”. Something he could not unlock unless he stepped out. He says, “I have learnt” not by sitting in class, or observing but by doing. He says, “12 I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me“. He had a tank of survival opened up when he was facing good times and tough times. Had he not tried and faced these things, for sure he would have not learnt them. I know that God gives calling to His people and I also believe God reveals what you are made of as you step out. Stepping out allows you to unlock hidden mysteries He deposited in you. I am a witness to this, I never knew what I was made of until I began to exercise faith and step out and do it. This ministry was birthed in stepping out. I never knew God could use me with all my limitations but when I stepped out, I unlocked a tank of writing and putting messages together He had reserved for the right time. In stepping out by faith, I applied pressure to a container of treasures stored and pushed out what was stored in there.

Shake a bottle of soda then try and open it and see pressure at work. Some of us need some shaking to produce pressure that will push out what is locked in us. In this ministry there are hidden treasure of preaching, teaching, parenting, leadership, encouragements etc. locked in some of you that are yet to be unlocked, what are you doing to unlock what God has deposited in you? Do you know what you are made of? Christ in you, the hope of glory. Don’t wait till you know (might take a while or not show up), step out and try that you may know, You will be amazed to learn something new about what you are made off, God given abilities contentment being one of them. Blessings Evans
