Willing Spirit Needs God’s Strength, Evans Olang

Psalm 73:25&26, “Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon the earth that I desire besides You. My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever

There are times when you know what you should do but you are not doing them. You have the skills, you have the ability but the strength to make it happen is what is lacking. We know of the phrase from the bible, Mark 14:38 “…The Spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak“. The Spirit desires to win but for the winning to really take place, the Spirit has to get the flesh on the same page otherwise both will war against each other.

Have you been feeling so tired of late dragging your feet to do anything? waking up is a struggle, praying is a struggle, so is reading the word? The Spirit is really willing but the flesh is just too weak to agree with the Spirit. There is war in the body and that war has to be defeated. I’m not even talking about sinning but having no strength to do what you and I should do to be even stronger. I need strength to move from point A to point B, I need to stay focused, I need to concur even more but I don’t have that strength.

The bible tells us of who we have in heaven, our heavenly Father, there is no doubt about that. The second thing is that who do we desire besides Him? this is a way to set priorities straight for everything that we need revolves around our heavenly Father. He is the author of good things. Desire to seek His kingdom first channels other desires to be fulfilled for they are desires revolving around Him. The truth of the matter is, flesh will fail and so is the heart. I am yet to meet someone whose flesh and heart never fails. Flesh could fail in trials and temptations, heart could fail in the area of faith but the bible states it clearly, God is the strength of my heart. Why not, God is the strength of my flesh? God deals with the heart, if we allow Him get to the heart, the heart has a way of affecting the flesh to comply with the Spirit. Like mentioned, the Spirit (heart) is indeed willing, ready, expecting but what helps it fail is the flesh. Strength is the fuel that helps each of us accomplish what we need to accomplish. You can have visions, dreams, ambitions, abilities but God strengthens us to bring those things to a completion. It’s just like you can make a body and it may look good and strong but without the breath of God, the body will do nothing. God’s strength is our breath, pumping the heart to keep beating and give life to the entire being. Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”, you can endure all things because the heart has been given strength. Isaiah 26:4, “Trust in the Lord forever, For in Yah, the Lord is everlasting strength”, 2Corinthians 12:9, “My grace is sufficient for you, my strength is made perfect in weakness”, Psalm 46:1, “God is my refuge and strength…”. God has deposited many wonderful things in our lives, we now need His strength to make them happen. Let me also say that God’s strength is the heartbeat of our Christian living. Through His strength we can say no to sin, strength to worship Him, strength to reach out to others, strength to bring forth more spiritual babies. Take a closer look at your life and you will see that when strength is missing, doing God’s will becomes impossible. The truth has been revealed but the strength to function in that truth is what we need.

Seek strength from above, the breath of God to empower you to fulfill that calling, vision, dream, desire. The fact that the spirit is willing is a sign that we need God’s strength.

Have a blessed God’s strengthened day, blessings Evans
