Daniel 5:26-27, “26This is the interpretation of the matter: Mene, God has numbered the days of your kingdom and brought it to an end; 27Tekel, you have been weighed in the balances and found wanting; Peres, your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians”
Proclamation of what was written. Daniel who had the spirit of God within, was the only one known to be able to interpret this “strange message”, foreign to the Babylonians, but not to the prophet Daniel. The Apostle Paul reminds us, “… the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.” This king could not understand the Word of God, but Daniel was a diligent able to rightly divide the word of truth. Daniel was always ready to preach the Word of God in season and about of season. He would preach the truth no matter the circumstances, later in in Daniel, the well-known lion’s Den episode would display how he would not forsake his regular and active prayer life, even though it was more than politically incorrect, it was against the law of the land. This is the type of follower of God that he was. Where are the Daniel’s of today?
The judgment of God came upon the king. “That very night Belshazzar the Chaldean king was killed. And Darius the Mede received the kingdom, being about sixty-two years old. God sets up and puts down whosoever He decides. John MacArthur shares, “The Babylonian Empire was once the glorious head of gold. The crown of the times of the gentiles. But it had gradually deteriorated. It had gradually entered a state of debauchery, a state of degeneration. Until the hour of its doom is finally pronounced suddenly and totally and the Medo-Persian army sweeps in. And it is the end of a great and historic era.” The Potter has freedom to do whatsoever He wills with His creation. Listen tender hearted to the Psalmist words, “2 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying,
3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
7 I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.
10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
This is what happened with King Belshazzar, he was judged by a higher King, the King of Kings who ultimately numbered the days of Belshazzar. This was the end of the kingdom of Babylon rule prophesied by Daniel (Daniel 2) as the Head of Gold described which ruled from 605-539 B.C. and followed by the Breast of Silver which was Medo-Persia rule from 539 – 331 B.C.. However, God will ultimately destroy all the Kingdoms of this world as the rock of Christ at His second coming establishes the King of Kings and His Kingdom upon the earth! The kingdom’s of this world have as much hope in their kingdom as an ant against a nuclear warhead headed straight for it. There is only hope in Christ and submitting to His Kingdom, and being found serving the true King in the only Kingdom that will last, for all eternity. MacArthur again shares concerning Daniel 5, “The first scene in the chapter is an orgy. It is filled with desecration, blasphemy, evil acts. The history would describe for us, but I would not assault your brain with such a description. In the midst of the orgy is the awesome intervention of God who pronounces doom on the whole empire. And in a few hours, that doom comes. And I believe that all civilization follows the very same pattern. It rises to its heights. At its height, it is filled with pride. In the midst of its pride, and self-indulgence, and materialism it begins to descend into degeneration, and debauchery, and evil. And as it descends, it comes closer and closer to its destruction.” This looks a lot like America, and perhaps some other countries in our world. God is being very patient, but His patience will not last forever. Nations must submit to the Lord, to the Kingdom of God because they have No Hope against Him.
This begs the question, are you are part of the Kingdom of God, or the Kingdom of this world? Whose kingdom are you serving? If it is not God’s Kingdom, there is no hope for you. Repent of your sin, and put your trust in Christ and His righteousness. Psalm 2 read, “Kiss the Son, les
t he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.” Bow your knee to the Son, Jesus Christ, for “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God (Hebrew 10:31).” The fear of the Lord is the begging of wisdom, will you humble yourself and bow the knee to the true King?
A picture of Daniel’s Prophecy
I found this illustration, and even though the statement written above the picture is not in the Bible, it is a poignant question. America must heed the reality of Dan 5 in God’s dealings with Babylon, and repent, for the Bible shows how God sheds His grace on whosoever He wills. God’s grace may not always strive with USA, as it daily puffs it chests of pride out to Him. In one word America, straying with these that profess Christ, must repent!
