Philippians 4:6&7, “… and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your heart and minds through Christ Jesus”
One of the things that has taught me how the Lord grants us peace is while being driven by someone who I know. Of all my brothers, only Kefa I trust his driving. When he is driving, I can doze off and relax. Because I know his ways, that knowledge gives me peace in side to ride with him.
The world craves for peace. You can give love but I don’t think you can give peace, you can speak it. This is one of the greatest tools people need in their life. Many suicides take place because the victims most of the time have no peace within. Peace in the home, at work, in marriage. But what is peace? Peace is to be calm, quiet, still, silence, harmony. In other words, peace is the absence of war. Without peace, chaos, frustrations and confusion erupt and the devil is the enemy against peace. If he can steal away your peace, he knows he would have stripped you of something very important and powerful.
True peace originates from God. Let’s look at three aspects of Peace. PEACE WITH GOD, PEACE IN GOD, and PEACE OF GOD. Romans 5:1, “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have PEACE WITH GOD through our Lord Jesus Christ“. This is experienced when we receive Christ. We are no longer children under His wrath, we have made peace with God in that regards. When I am not in Christ, I am an enemy of God and the only way to settle it is repentance and faith.
Romans 15:13, “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and PEACE IN BELIEVING, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost”. This is peace in God knowing that I have hope and joy for I have escaped the wrath to come, having passed from death to life. This is also peace knowing that I am no longer alone, He lives in me. My peace comes from knowing that one day when this life is over, I will be with Him in heaven and not spend eternity in hell.
The message today dwells on PEACE OF GOD, Philippians 4:7, “… and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your heart and minds through Christ Jesus”. This is the kind of peace we need every day to sustain us through life. I don’t see how one can truly have the peace of God without first having “peace with God” and “peace in God”. The peace of God is what we need when we have overwhelming and out of control situations. The Lord taking over as the driver and you sleep through His driving is “peace of God”. Your knowledge of who He is and what He is cable of gives you peace inside. Psalm 34:8, “O, taste and see that the Lord is good, blessed is the man who trusts in Him“. Peace comes through trusting. This is not even your peace but the peace of God. The funny thing is that you can sense it but not explain it because it surpasses all understanding.
How do I get this peace, Philippians 4:6, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, make your request be known to God“, stop worrying and trying to dictate God and believe that He’s has it covered. Surrender everything to Him through prayers and take the back seat. Don’t forget to thank Him for what He is doing and what He will do, then go to sleep, rest, relax, be calm, Psalms 46:10, “Be still (be at peace) and know He is God”. How do I maintain this peace, Isaiah 26:3, “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You“. This is meditation on God’s truth about Himself. Paul continues to write in Philippians 4:8, “whatsoever things are true…noble…just…pure…lovely…good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy, meditate on this things“. You keep the peace by meditating on the things of God. If you have no “peace with God” and “peace in God” ask yourself, where are you heading to? If you lack “peace of God” in what you are going through, ask of Him and when it comes, by all means maintain it. The peace of God will sustain you through everything, some situations may not change immediately but having peace to go through it will bring you joy. Peace of God will pull you together while chaos from the devil will tear you into pieces. Without the peace of God, you will be torn into pieces. Blessings Evans
