Luke 2:22, “Then because of Divine warning in a dream not to return to Herod, they went back to their own country by a different route”. (Modern Language),
Luke 2:22, “And being warned of God, in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way. King James
Today’s word, Change course, if necessary. Everyone dreams of becoming something, or having success or loving someone and or marrying that someone or going somewhere or achieving some goals etc. These are some of the dreams and desires which, when fulfilled, add excitement, joy and happiness in our lives. God, our Heavenly Father wants us to joyous, successful and happy. However, most of the time, we don’t actualize these. We often face unpredictable challenges, traps and even danger that in some cases kill our dreams and us.
We have an enemy whose mission is to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10). He does not care who we are or where we are. He will make every attempt to kill us. He schemes plans every day to track us down to either stop us from being what God meant for us to be or kill us. But, the good news is, “we are safe with God, even in the valley of the shadow of death…we shall fear no evil because God is with us.” (Psalms 23) He also will guide our way. At times, He will change our plans or routes that we intended to take. For instance, He may let you go to a career you never wanted or marry someone you never thought you could marry or lead you to a town or city you never wanted to live in. He may at times instruct you to move from somewhere or out of a relationship with someone you feel you love for or care about. But whatever He does or instruct you to do, His intention is always good. He will only change your plans that may not fit in with His will for you. He will also change routes if He sees danger a head on the way you are going. He will instruct or warn you not to do something or head another way. It is important, therefore, for us the children of God to be flexible and willing to change route or our plans when God tells us to. How then can we know His will? Well His will is His word. Listen to the word. Listen to good counsel. Listen to yourself and, align what you are listening to the word. If you obey, you may save yourself from future pain, failure or hardship or death. Don’t insist on your ways always. Don’t have the mentality most people have “ my way or no way.” Don’t compromise to please people or pride yourself to death. And don’t think that you are very “mature” and “strong” and that you can make it alone. None of us is, we all need God’s leading because he, alone, knows the way that we take.
Job said “ He knows the way that I take, after He has tried me, I shall come forth like gold” (Job 23:10). Do you believe that God knows the way or road or path that you need to follow into your future dreams? Do you believe that God has a good plan for you to give you your expectation (Jeremiah 29:11)? If you believe God and all His promises, then let go of yourself and let God change your plans and lead you to any path He may choose whether you understand it or not. Heed to his warnings and you shall live and stay out of a lot of troubles and traps of Satan.
If you don’t, you may miss or lose something. For example:
- Samson lost his divine power, eyes and finally died tragically, because he didn’t heed God’s and his parent’s warning and advise not to love and marry Philistine women;
- Saul lost his kingship career, was rejected by God and died in battle, a tragic death
- Many children of Israelites died in the wilderness because they ignored God’s instruction, and his servant Moses’ leadership:
If you heed God’s warnings, and follow, His instructions, be willing to change route yourself or let Him do so at will, you will avoid a lot of, if not all, obstacles in life including premature death or evil Satan may bring your way and mine. For example:
- The Wise men, who announced the good news of Jesus’ birth, went back to their country through a different route. God warned them not to go to Herod. They escaped death!
- Joseph and his young wife and infant (baby Jesus) escaped to Egypt, through a different route, and had their baby escape infanticide by the hand of Herod. “…Rise, take your child and his mother and escape to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you …And he arose and took the child and his mother by night. And departed to Egypt, and remained there until the death of Herod.” (Mathew 2:13-15)
Is there anything, issue or problem that is or has really been an obstacle in your life? Review carefully, honestly and prayerfully on your beliefs, attitudes, motivations, associations, plans, dreams and desires etc., and if you are convinced and convicted that you need to change route, then do it. And do it today. You shall live and have good success (Josh: 1:8), blessings Boaz
