Submitting To God’s Righteousness, Part 1of10, Evans Olang

Romans 10:3, “For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God”.

Its been said that 80-90% of the people who make a profession of faith fall away, I witnessed this first hand when I evangelized. Some never made it to church and some did for a short time. Do you know of souls you witnessed to, led them through sinner’s prayer but still did not see the fruit of salvation in their lives? Well you might say that at least a seed was planted however there is something seriously wrong somewhere we all need to be concerned about and address. I have rejoiced over the ones who stood, I praise God for them but my heart has been troubled over the ones who did not stand and I had to go before God in prayers to find out why. As I began to attentively study the book of Romans chapter 1-7, 2Samuel 24 and Isaiah 6, it became very clear to me why. God was gracious enough to teach me some things. My eyes have been so much opened that I must share with you what I have learnt in the last few years. I came across some of the preachers in the 19th, 20th, and 21st century whose preaching’s God has used to enlighten me. I pray that you will learn something from this series.

To get us started, it will be beneficial to look at the first line of the scripture Romans 10:3, “for they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness”. What causes a person to be ignorant of God’s righteousness? When he does not truly know God. The world has their own perception of who they think God is. They have gone even to the extent of creating their own god to suit themselves. Haven’t you heard something like this, “My god would never do that?” I agree, their god would never do that because he is not the God of heaven as described in the bible. Knowing the God of heaven is knowing His TRUE NATURE which is revealed to us through the ten commandments (law). He reveals Himself in the spirituality of His law. That is where His righteousness and perfect purity of character are revealed for men to learn it there. To be honest, I don’t see the Ten Commandments as laws imposed on mankind to learn and follow, I believe it’s primary work is to reveal to us who God is. You will agree with me that many who are not saved or soundly saved are ignorant of God’s righteousness and with that, they have created a god to suit themselves, a god they are comfortable with. Proverbs 16:2, “All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the heart”. I see this a lot when I talk with the unsaved.

Again, men are ignorant of God’s righteousness when they do not understand His method of making sinners righteous. For someone to be made righteous, they must be living in sin. Sin is the opposite of righteousness. So what is sin? 1John 3:4, “Sin is transgression of the law”. In other words, it’s an offense against religious or moral law. If we have this definition, then we can say that without the law, there can be no sin. If one breaks the law of God, it causes one to be a sinner. What does the law have to do with what we will be sharing on? because men are ignorant of the righteousness of God when they do not know and understand the laws of God which reveals what sin is. The bible says, Romans 3:20, “By the law is the knowledge of sin”. Paul says to us in Romans 7:7, “…I would have not known sin except through the law”. Paul tells us that he did not know what sin was until the law of God told him. So the law tells us what sin is because it reveals who God is. If I was to use SIN as an acronym, Savior Is Needed. How can a person be truly saved when they do not really know what sin is?

Often times we hear the messages of God’s love and mercy. They are powerful messages we all embrace, without them we have nothing at all. At times we hear God’s justice yet we don’t see God’s justice simply because we have never understood what it is, who it applies to and when it ought to be applied. Some feel that God is love and therefore cannot serve justice, that will make Him unjust. The bible says, Psalm 89:14, “Righteousness and Justice are the foundations of His throne”. He is the God of faithfulness, without injustice, good and upright He is. Lawlessness would not require justice and there can be no government without the laws governing their country. The law is the primary reason why we have justice. If there is no law, what shall justice be based on? To continue, blessings Ev
