Romans 11:29, “For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable”
Car manufacturers fascinate me. Each of them have built different types of cars, some customized to suit the buyers. For instant, Mercedes Benz can have one of their built cars, look alike but different classes eg. C and S class series. You may find two cars look the same however they cost different. The difference in cost is driven by different factors such as performance, upgrades (sunroof, navigation system, more power etc) that make one more expensive than the other. Everyone has a reason for going for different type of cars depending on what they are looking for in a car and what they can afford. Cars can be upgraded and customized. Here is the reason for bringing this up, just because a car has been made does not mean there is no more room to either upgrade or customize it. For us humans we have God our maker who made us and still is willing to upgrade us with gifts and talents.
Let’s explore what talents are. According to the dictionary, talents are marked innate ability, as for artistic accomplishments. It’s natural endowment. We are different in order to maintain our individuality. With the uniqueness of each of us, we have talents and abilities. I was watching something on TV not too long ago, and they brought these young kids of about 10 years and under. They all had different talents and abilities. One at the age of 4 could sing and dance Elvis songs; there was also a 4 year old girl who had such knowledge of the government and politics. Talents is what you have that very few people have. Talent in singing, writing poetry, dancing, public speaking. At my house I have brothers talented in drawing portraits, another in poetry and another in playing drums, different talents but fitting in one household. I believe God allows us to have talents to enjoy and trade with them to reach His people.
Mathew 25:14-15, “14 For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them. 15, “And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey”. We don’t know what they might have been given to do but it’s clear they were asked to do was according to their own abilities. The Master knew what they were capable of; he bestowed goods and talents to them. He expected them to do something with the talents to the maximum. Are you using your God given talents to the maximum? Each of them doubled their goods through their talents except the last man who buried his because he only had one. The rest were rewarded according to the way they used their talent, the last one was denied and even that which he had was taken away. When we come back to talking about gifts, we understand that gifts are not things worked for but bestowed without any plan for compensation. Anytime you pay for a gift, it wouldn’t be considered as a gift anymore. The good God of mercy has taken the liberty to bestow gifts in us for a reason. The gifts are to be used to edify the body of Christ. All the gifts of the saints fall back to the Holy Spirit who empowers men to do what they would not do on their own. Once again, each of us have different gifts, Romans 12:6, “Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them”. The gifts we have also differs because of the measure of grace and faith and has to be put to work. Regardless of what we have, God requires us to use them. What are some of the spiritual gifts, prophesy, ministry, teaching, leadership, mercy, exhortation. All these gifts and many more originate from the same Spirit and are to be used to benefit the body. I have my own and I can also tap from someone who has the gift I don’t have. This is the part where we need each other for the gifts we have to benefit each other. 1Corinthians 12:7, “But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all“, Romans 12 and 1Corinthians 12 talks about spiritual gifts and what they are for. Before men, gifts are for self while with God, gifts are to benefit the entire body of Christ. If God has given you a gift and talents you are not using in your local church, you are missing the opportunity to maximize that gift. The body has different parts, the hands, legs, eyes, ears to mention a few. All have different functions but depend on each other. It’s like saying the hands have the gift to handle, touch, build; meanwhile the legs have the gift to carry, move, and help escape danger. Different functions but depend on each other. The hands needs the legs, ears, eyes etc for it to be complete and so is the gifting we have that other people don’t and what they have that we don’t have. We need our gifts and their gifts and vice versa. Romans 11:29, “For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable”, interesting to know that His gifts are irreversible, in other words, they are final. I believe God will not take away what he has bestowed upon us, but if we are not using them, it will not be rewarding to us or people around us. We all have gifts and talents on board, let’s maximize them to build and further His kingdom. The more you use them, the more you allow room for gifts upgrade. The more you empty yourself with what you have, the more gifts will be bestowed upon you. Blessings Ev
