Put On The Whole Armor Of God, Evans Olang

Ephesians 6:10-20, “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil”

To fight effectively in your spiritual battle, you must know Christ, obey His standards by submission, and be prepared to fight. Anyone in Christ is a target as Jesus was in the wilderness by Satan.

Paul in his conclusion in writing to the Ephesians, begins in 6:10 by saying, “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might”. I find it very important to pay attention to the last words, they sum up everything that has already been said.He shares with them on how to be strong, “In the power of His might”, derived from I believe Zechariah 4:6, “… Not by might, not by power but by My Spirit, says the Lord of hosts“. It’s clear that by “His might” would mean by “His Spirit” because God empowers us through Him.

Vs. 11, “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil“. It will be beneficial to define armor to understand why we need to put it on. Armor is a defensive, as of metal, wood, or leather, worn to protect the body against weapons. So we can say that we have weapons formed against us always flying to destroy us, we need protection. To know that we are at war, let vs. 12 bring it to light, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places”. I don’t want to concentrate so much on what we fight against, I want to dwell on how to get ready for it.

Vs 14, “Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth“, What really holds us together is the truth, the truth becomes the belt that holds what we know dearly. The truth tightens and chocks out every lie. “Having put on the breast plate of righteousness“, this is like putting on the bullet proof vest to protect the most sensitive parts of the body. The bible says in Proverbs 4:23, “Keep thy heart will diligence, for out of it are the issues of life“. That is where life begins for a Christian and that is a place that must be girded well, it defines who we are in Christ. vs. 15. “Having shod your feet with the preparation of gospel of peace“, a soldier is someone who is ready to march into the battle field. His aim is to defeat the enemy, win and rescue those held captive in sin.

Vs. 16. “Above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench the fiery darts of the wicked one“. If you are going to win, you must have a shield, something to strengthen what you already have. The neat thing about the shield, it can be used to protect every part of the body not like the other gadgets that are used to protect a particular area. Faith defends the truth, the heart, the feet, etc. Hebrews 11:6, “without faith, it is impossible to please Him…” This means we can have everything but without the shield, we will not please Him the reason the bible says “ABOVE ALL TAKE THE SHIELD OF FAITH“.

Vs. 17. “And take the helmet of salvation“, people who go riding horses, bikes, motorcycles are required to wear helmets. It has been proven that it can save lives and it has many times. When we have the helmet of salvation, we too are safe when we sometimes fall, yes we might have bruises and pains but we still know that we haven’t lost our salvation. “and the word of the Spirit, which is the word of God“. This is the only offensive weapon, the rest are defensive weapons. Hebrews 4:12, ” For the word of the Lord is living and powerful, sharper than any double edged sword, piercing even division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrows, and is a discerner of thoughts and the intents of the heart.” The word does all the fighting with an aim to win. Different gadgets talked about here we need them, that is why Paul tells us to put on the WHOLE OF THE ARMOR.

I sum up the entire process of dressing for the battle with Romans 13:14, “But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh to fulfill it’s lust thereof“. Putting on the Lord Jesus means putting on the Whole Armor of God. He is everything from the truth, John 14:6, He is righteous Romans 10:3, He is the reason for the gospel Isaiah 52:7, He is the shield of faith, Psalm 3:3, He is our salvation, Romans 10:13, He is the sword of the Spirit, John 1:1. You put on the Lord Jesus, you have all it takes to stand against the wiles of the devil. Put Him on. Blessings Ev
