Hebrews 10:9, “then He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.” He takes away the first that He may establish the second”
It amazes me how God does not do things according to the way we think. He always takes a different turn and just when you think you have figured Him out, He does something that blows your mind and you are back seeking to know more. Over and over again I see God raising the unexpected, the one that the blessing was not secured for by man’s standards, is the one He raises. When You look at Cain and Abel, the blessing rests on Abel, looking at Esau and Jacob, the blessing rests on Jacob, the prodigal son and his older brother, the blessing rests on the unexpected. Abel, Jacob, and the prodigal son have one thing in common, they are second born and no one ever expected them to be blessed. Why is this important? simple, God is in the business of raising the second (the unexpected).
The first tends to be stubborn and unwilling to humble himself or bend therefore God always bypasses the first to establish the second. God bypassed Adam the first man created to send Jesus His Only begotten Son, the last Adam. What Adam messed up, Jesus came to fix it. Jesus came to undo what Adam did.
Hebrews 10:9, the theme verse of my life starts by saying, “He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will”, Jesus came to do the will of the Father, the mark of obedience in the second. For God to build the second, the layer of the first has to come off that the tender heart of the second may be established. While the first may desire to do things his own way, the second is seeking ways to do the will of the Father. In the world we were like the first stubborn born and God had to bypass all that to bring out the inner child inside of us that receives Him by faith, that is our second birth. Mark 10:15, “Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.” It’s not the sophisticated, all knowing and good looking He raises, He raises the weak, the one who feels he is unable but yet available.
The word “establish” means to bring about, to place or settle. What’s God word saying to us “He takes away the first that He may establish the second”. Are you glad that He has called you in spite of your weaknesses, failures, insecurities to establish you simply because you were willing to do His will? He bypassed everything you knew about yourself to build the inner child kind of faith He has placed there. What you placed second in your life is what He has come to establish. What you never thought He could use is what He is establishing. Our prayer today, Lord establish in our lives what we placed second, insignificant and unexpected. Bypass our pride, arrogance, stubborn and establish our faith, hope, confidence and humility to concur the first. As you establish us, establish all that you have brought in our lives. Establish our finances, marriages, children, jobs, ministries etc. as we yield to Your will. Bypassing the first to establish the second is a very humbling experience. Blessings Ev
