We Are Able, Part 2of2, Evans Olang

Numbers 13:1-33, “30 Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it”

The bible says that as a man thinks in his heart so is he. Many times we speak what we see. What we see indeed can be a fact but believers are not called to live by facts but by faith. In our story, the fact is, there were giants in the land of Canaan, however the truth was, God had given them the land regardless of the facts.

Yes the Israelites looked like grasshoppers before the Canaanites; however they needed to look at who was with them. If the people of Canaan would have also seen them, they would have looked like grasshoppers before the children of Israel simply because God with them was way bigger than the giants. If you are going to face this year in your own strength and abilities, be ready for disappointments, there are great obstacles. But when you choose to face it with God on your side, then what is set before you will not be an issue for God is about God in your situation. This Year will present you with its giants but GOD. “They that know their God shall do exploits“. You have to know who Your God is and His capabilities to make it in this year.

Number 3. principle: GOD MUST BE GOD IN YOUR JOURNEY AND WE MUST HAVE FAITH IN HIM. Numbers 13:30, “Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it”. The name Caleb means a slave or a dog. Even with such name, he is a man of God, he has seen God in action many times and whatever they are about to face is not a march to God. His advice, “Let us go at once and take possession“, no time to waste even as we have started the year. Conquerors make every move when they know the time has come. If you saw the giants in the land already, do not be discouraged because we are able to overcome them. This is not for those who are going by feelings but by faith. Faith negates the facts. The obstacles present cannot be compared to the possessions God has in store for us. Different reports came in but only 2 had the report the Lord had for His people. Things may be looking tough and complicated, and it may not look like we will make it, but God who is able has encouraged us to move in and make it. Ephesians 3:20, “Now unto Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly above all we ask or think, according to the power that works within us”. The power of Christ working within us is propelling us to attempt the impossible because He has made us more than conquerors. We can only conquer what God has already conquered. God will not tell you to do something without His help. If He said do it, know that its been done. Whose report shall you believe?

Number 4. principle: THE FOCUSS ON VICTORY MUST BE FOR GOD’S GLORY. Numbers 14:1, “So all the congregation lifted up their voices and cried, and the people wept that night… complained against Moses and Aaron, and the whole congregation said to them, “if only we had died in the land of Egypt!” It is very easy to forget all the miracles that have happened when you are faced with new obstacles. Looking back at where you came from can bring a temporary relief and desire. God has brought us this far not to take us back but to move us forward. We are climbing from glory to glory. We have gone too far to go back, too deep to turn around and go back. A strategy is needed to fight through and make it to the other side. What will make you change how you see things is by checking your thoughts, confessions and actions. Caleb’s thought was “victory”, his confession, “we are able”, his action was, “let’s move in at once and take possession”. He is associated with many complainers but his faith in God is not shaken by that.

In this whole story, the reason for their move and victory is not primarily because of the Israelites but about God. 10 spies were going to rob God of the glory He would gain through them simply because what they saw, and even discouraging others from doing the same. Caleb and Joshua on the other hand had God’s great name on the line the reason they would take God at His word. God said Exodus 7: 3, “And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and multiply My signs and My wonders in the land of Egypt”. God is in the business of demonstrating He is God for His own glory.

I pray that the spirit that was in Caleb be in us that what we see will not stop us from attaining what the Lord has for us. God’s name thrives in the midst of impossible situations, that is where He displays much of His glory. God is about making much of Himself through those who He has chosen, for God is for God. “WE ARE ABLE FOR GOD IS ABLE”. Blessings Ev
