Romans 10:3, “For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God”.
The foundation of our salvation is crucial in the sense that, it defines it and sets in place everything that will be built on that foundation. If your understanding is that Christ died on the cross to make you happy, then all you will seek is ways to be happy and build your life on happiness. The message of the Gospel, Christ did not come to make us happy, He came to make us righteous, right with God. Everything else is filtered through the eyes of the gospel. 2Corinthians 5:21, “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him”, not righteousness for a season but for a life time. The book of Proverbs tells us what does not profit in the day of wrath, Proverbs 11:4, “Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, But righteousness delivers from death”.
Romans 10:3, “for they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness”. A person becomes ignorant of God’s righteousness when he does not truly know God. The world has their own perception of who God is. They have gone as far as creating a god in their own making to suit themselves. People have created their own plan of salvation, establishing their own righteousness. The question to ask, is it the true one? I hear people say, “my god would never do that“, to which I agree with them, their personal god will never because he is not the God of heaven revealed in the bible. Knowing the God of heaven is knowing His TRUE NATURE which is revealed to us in summary of the ten commandments (law). He reveals Himself in the spirituality of His law. That is where His righteousness and perfect purity of character are revealed for men to learn it there. The ten commandments are not laws imposed on mankind to learn and follow, I believe it’s primary work is to reveal to us who God is which then reveals who we truly are. It exposes our so called righteousness and creates a thirst for His righteousness. Those who are not soundly saved are ignorant of God’s righteousness and with that, they have created a god to suit themselves, a god they are comfortable with to which if you probed more, you will discover they are their own gods. They may not admit it but that is true, they are the captain of their own destiny. Proverbs 16:2, “All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the heart”. I see this a lot when I talk with the unsaved.
Again, men are ignorant of God’s righteousness when they do not understand His method of making sinners righteous. For someone to be made righteous, they must be living in sin. Sin is the opposite of righteousness. What is sin? 1John 3:4, “Sin is transgression of the law”. In other words it is an offense against religious or moral law. If we have this definition, then we can say that without the law, there can be no sin. What does the law have to do with I am sharing? Because men are ignorant of the righteousness of God when they do not know and understand the laws of God which reveals what sin is. The bible says, Romans 3:20, “By the law is the knowledge of sin”. Paul says to us in Romans 7:7, “…I would have not known sin except through the law”. Paul tells us that he did not know what sin was until the law of God told him. So the law tells us what sin is because it reveals who God is. If I was to use SIN as an acronym, I would say Savior Is Needed.
How can a person truly repent and be saved when they do not really know what sin is and more so what their sin is? How can they submit to the righteousness of God if they are ignorant of it? This is the reason that even for those who are saved ought to preach to themselves the gospel daily to keep the hunger and thirst for righteousness alive. This calls for crucifying the flesh that craves for happiness that we may live a righteous life, a life pure before God. Romans 14:17, “for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit”
Often times we hear the messages of God’s love and mercy. They are powerful messages we all embrace, without them we have nothing at all. At times we hear God’s justice yet we do not see God’s justice simply because we have never understood it, who it applies to and when it ought to be applied. Some feel that God is love and therefore cannot serve justice because that will make Him unjust. The bible says, Psalm 89:14, “Righteousness and Justice are the foundations of His throne”. He is the God of faithfulness, without injustice, good and upright He is. Lawlessness would not require justice and there can be no government without the laws governing their country. The law is the primary reason we have justice. If there is no law, what shall justice be based on?
We as believers need to crave to be as righteous as He is and bring others in the light of His righteousness. I do not hear much of justice, righteousness, holiness, purity being preached on Christian TV but they are the foundation of His throne and the foundation of our Christianity. God has set a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness, that makes me hunger and thirst more for righteousness Acts 17:3, “because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.” Matthew 6:33, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness”, Are you hungry and thirsty for His righteousness? Then you and I have to submit to His in prayer, in dying to self, in crucifying the flesh, in submission otherwise we are doomed, then we help others understand the righteousness they need to be saved, Blessings Ev.
