2Corinthians 5:20, “Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God”
Ambassadors are ministers of the highest rank, with full authority to represent their country. If you are born again, you need to realize that you are an ambassador for Christ. You are a minister with a highest rank raised to represent his country, the Kingdom of heaven with the gospel. We are not of this world, we are ambassadors in this world. Those who are saved are citizens of heaven temporarily on assignment here on earth (country). No ambassador comes in his own authority and does what he wants, he displays a lifestyle depicting what his country is like.
I find it discouraging sometimes when believers who should act like ambassadors are acting more like secret agents. For whatever reason, they find it hard to be identified with their own country at work, in the community etc. Sounding more like living a double life. On Sunday morning everyone knows him to be an ambassador by the way he conducts himself and then the rest of the week, he is the only one who knows he is a believer. The word of God says in Matthew 5:16, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven”. God has called you to be a diplomat where you are, first to be a light and second with God given opportunities to bring His message to those in need. It is not the title that defines a person, it is the duty behind the title that displays truly who they are.
What qualifies a person to be an ambassador, vs. 17-18 tells us that “17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new”. That is the start but realize it does not stop there, next step, vs. 18″ Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation”, A minister is not given the title to feel good about himself, he is given a title to fulfill the roles of that title. We are made ministers, ambassadors for the ministry of reconciliation. This speaks to the reality that God wills to be reconciled with sinners. God has called believers to shine while proclaiming the gospel of reconciliation to others. Through service such as waiting on tables, God wants Christians to accept the privilege of serving unbelievers while proclaiming a desire to be reconciled. Ambassadors have authority and the back up from the country they represent.
Paul said that if we are really Christians, then we are “ambassadors of Christ“, we are God’s sole representatives in this foreign land called “the world.” With that analogy in mind, consider what a president would think of an ambassador to a foreign country, say Russia, who is told to deliver an extremely urgent message that will involve the peace of the whole world. And that ambassador (even with the best intentions) chooses not to be identified with his country in a foreign land and gives only a small part of the message, in such a way that it makes a very different impression than what the president wanted to make. How should the president think of that ambassador and reward him when he finds out the damage done?
An ambassador is not afraid to show whose he is and what country he represents, if anything, he delights in the fact that God would entrust him with such a high rank position he does not deserve or qualify for. To be everything He wants us to be before He takes us home to be with Him when the time comes. You and I are ambassadors for Christ, let us act like it everywhere we are. Blessings Ev
