Luke 5:1-7, “But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net”
We are about to see a whole night work which failed completed at Jesus’ word in no time. Where we see the Lord perform a miracle that exceeds anything anyone could imagine or think.
Vs. 4 “When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the DEEP and let down your nets for a catch”. After the Master finished teaching, feeding them with the spiritual food, He turns to perform a miracle that would bring about natural food. He tells Peter to deep his nets for a great catch. Point no. 4, are you purposing in your life to go deeper in your prayer life? Great things are placed in the deep because they teach you faith, perseverance, character. Some people have been operating on shallow waters all their lives and may have been comfortable there, this year purpose in your heart by the grace of God to take God at His word and launch into the deep. Attempt the impossible and believe God for breakthrough. Deep waters require deeper faith, deeper faith is brought by responding to the challenge the Lord has for us in Jeremiah 33:3, ‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’”. Leonard Ravenhill said something that struck me about prayers, he stated it this way, “Sunday morning services many times show how popular the church is, Sunday nights shows how popular the preacher/pastor is, PRAYER MEETINGS SHOW HOW POPULAR GOD IS”. Paraphrased). Do we see God being popular when He met Peter? YES. I know that prayers and prayer meetings are a struggle to many and to some it may not be that important, but that is where we launch into the deep for a great catch.
vs. “5 But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net”. We see Peter here being very vulnerable and very real. He may have wondered, what would a teacher and carpenter know about fishing. Despite all these he said Lord we have tried our way and failed but at this moment we will trust your way even if it does not make sense. Remember they fished at night because that is when fish was expected, here Jesus is telling him to cast his nets on a day light. Professional fishermen bowing their knowledge, expertise and experience for the move of God. Point no. 5, are you willing to obedient to act on what the Lord tells you no questions asked even if it does not make sense to you?. That your expertise and knowledge will be subject to His word? Knowledge and expertise sometimes fail, God fails not. See the miracle of the great catch was not when they caught the fish, it’s when they believed and obeyed. Mark 16:17, “And these signs will follow those who believe…” Some follow signs, the bible says signs follow those who believe and believe has obedience in it.
I hope and pray that these few points I have laid out will help you in your walk as you continue through the journey of this year. I am determined to grow more than I did last year and trust God for greater things. We toiled all night many months, it’s a new day, let’s see what the Lord has for us as we grow closer to Him. blessings Ev
