Lord Teach Us to Pray 2of10: Your Kingdom Come, Evans Olang

Matthew 6:9-15, vs. 10, “…your kingdom come, ” Matthew 6:33, “But seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness“,

Praying effectively is not about ABILITY, it is more about AVAILABILITY. Like a guitar which has no ability to tune itself and play its own tune. When placed in able hands of a skillful player who knows how to play it, he tunes it and makes his own sweet music filled with harmony in the air because it is in the right hands. The same with us, when we avail ourselves, the Holy Spirit takes us, tunes us and plays His own tune of prayer how best He wants to for the glory of God.

What is “Your Kingdom come” in dealing with in prayers? It’s about spiritual growth, transformation, transfiguration. God is more about our spiritual growth than pampering us with material and physical things, Romans 12:1. It is about being conformed to the IMAGE of Christ, Philippians 3:10, 2 Corinthians 3:17-18. It is being an IMITATOR of Christ, Ephesians 5:1, and having the MIND of Christ. Philippians 2:5. The kingdom of God is about OWNERSHIP, It is GOSPEL centered, Mark 1:15, Romans 14:7-9. The GOSPEL is about RIGHTEOUSNESS, Romans 1:16-17. To be made righteous means to be made in the RIGHT STANDING ORDER WITH GOD, 2Corinthians 5:21.

The kingdom of God is NOT about, HAPPINESS, it is about Righteousness, Peace and Joy in the Holy Ghost, Romans 14:17.

To pray “Your kingdom come” is to seek God’s sovereign reign and rule over your life as Lord daily. Romans 14:7-9, Psalm 24:1-10. It is a drive advance His kingdom part of it reaching the lost 2Corinthians 5:18. It is Seeking the power of the Holy Spirit that works within us, Philippians 3:10, Ephesians 3:20. It is seeking His joy which is your strength, Nehemiah 8:10. It is seeking His peace that passes all understanding, Isaiah 26:3, Philippians 4:5-7. It is seeking to be crucified with Christ- dead to self and alive unto Christ, Galatians 2:20. It is asking for burden to pray effectively, 2Chronicles 7:14 and increase in faith, Luke 17:5. It is also asking for wisdom from above, James 1:5, 2Chronicles 1:10,

“Your kingdom come” is summed up in these three points, 1.Hunger for God, Matthew 5:6, 2. Passion for the lost, 2cor 5:14, 3. Hatred for sin and craving for righteousness, Proverbs 8:13. Colossians 3:1-4, “1 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory”, Ephesians 1:17-,.

Final thoughts:The Holy Spirit is working these in us right now. He is ruling in us to make us more righteous, more peaceable, and more joyful. “The kingdom of heaven is the real object of our search. It must be sought first both in point of time and of interest, and it must be kept ever first in our thoughts after it is found”, McGarvey Pendleton

As Alan Red path so rightly stated, “Before we can pray ‘Your Kingdom come,’ we must be willing to pray ‘my kingdom go”. SEEK HIS KINGDOM FIRST.

“GOD IS MOST GLORIFIED IN US WHEN WE ARE MOST SATISFIED IN HIM”, John Piper, Matthew 6:21, “ For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”, MAKE THE LORD YOUR TREASURE AND SET YOUR HEART TO SEEK HIM. Blessings Ev
