Romans Chapter 1 Study, Part 6of12, Evans Olang

Posted on Updated on

Romans 1:1-31, “16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”

The greatest sin is unbelief, the exchange of the glory of God for corruptible things. What we know as sin stems from the exchange, by first denial of who God is and His attributes. Vs. 19, says, “because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse”. I think this vs. sums up the problem of man. You get rid of God and you have no accountability, anything goes.

Let’s see from these two verses how God has revealed Himself to men, 1. God has given each man the Gift of Revelation, vs. 19, “ because what may be known of God is manifest (evident) in THEM, for God has SHOWN IT TO THEM”,. God has given man the INNER revelation. He has written His laws in our hearts, our conscious bearing witness Hebrews 8:10. Go to any of the most primitive regions and encounter with those who have never heard of Jesus or the bible or even learned but they believe there is a creator, a being powerful to make things. This is because God has given all men conscience (sense of awareness), Romans 2:14-15, “14 for when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do the things in the law, these, although not having the law, are a law to themselves, 15 who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them”. Everyone has the gift of conscience when they come into the world, (Being aware). However in the light of the revelation, what does man try to do with their conscience? SUPPRESS IT, OVERRULE IT or SILENCE IT. Conscience is the court room of our mind, it ACCUSES or EXCUSES. People minimize, nullify, silence their conscience so as not to feel bad about what they are doing wrong. If anything, they feel like victims. Clear Conscience brings about Godly fear.

Not only do we have the Gift of Revelation but we also have 2. The Content of Revelation, vs. 20, “For since the creation of the world, His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are WITHOUT EXCUSE”. Through creation, God has revealed Himself to man by OUTER revelation (creation), Psalm 19:1-4, “The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. 2 Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge. 3 There is no speech nor language Where their voice is not heard. 4 Their line has gone out through all the earth, And their words to the end of the world”

“…HIS ETERNAL POWER AND GODHEAD” shows God is powerful being able to create and be greater than His creation. The testimony of nature alone is sufficient to lead man to an understanding of the personal, righteous, nature of God SO THAT THEY ARE WITHOUT EXCUSE.

These two vs. 19 & 20 truly indicates to us that there are no atheists in God’s biblical account, why? Because MAN HAS SUFFICIENT KNOWLEDGE OF GOD’S EXISTENCE TO MAKE HIM RESPONSIBLE TO GOD. Blessings Ev
