John 8:36, “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed”
This question “can born again Christians be demon possessed?” is often asked by believers. My conviction, true Christians (the only kind) don’t get demon possessed but can demon oppressed. What is the difference? to be “possessed” is to be owned by someone or to be controlled, dominated. In other words, be a slave to a master. Born again Christians are not owned or mastered by demons, they do not belong to the devil, 1John 4:4, qualifies this statement “Ye are of God little children and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you than he (demons) that is in the world“. We are of God, automatically we have overcome them. Jesus in us is an overcomer. His presence in and with us is enough to scare the demons. why? James 2:29, “You believe that there is one God; You do well. Even the demons believe and tremble”
“Oppressed” on the other hand is to keep down by severe and unjust use of force or authority. It is to weigh heavily, to overwhelm with an aim to crush. The work of the devil and his demons on Christians is to keep them down, accuse them, use force and authority to make sure they are down. He goes about putting heavy yokes on the back of Christians to overwhelm them. He is constantly looking for loopholes to come in and oppress, but thanks be to God for His overcoming word, 1Peter 5:8, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil as a roaring lion, walks about seeking souls he may devour”. To be sober is to be aware of the tactics of the enemy and how he strikes. To be vigilant is to be always alert because of his tactics. He is always walking about trying to find those who are not sober and vigilant. Like roaring a lion, meaning he is not the lion he comes to terrorize God’s people. This can be looked at in two ways, when he roars like a lion, if you are not careful, you might think that he is the lion and blame Christ for all you are going through. Jesus said, “My sheep knows my voice“, therefore we have to distinguish between who roars like a lion and who is the Lion. Jesus Christ is the LION OF THE TRIBE OF JUDAH!!!
Why is this so important? because we were not called into bondage but into freedom, and freedom only comes from and through Jesus Christ. We all get oppressed sometimes with failures, sickness, confusion, frustrations, bitterness etc. and freedom seems hard to reach. Here is how the freedom comes, Isaiah 10:27, “It shall come to pass in that day that his burden will be taken away from your shoulder, and his yoke from your neck and the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing“. We have a burden of heaviness laid on us by the enemy to oppress us, the bible says that it has to be taken off the shoulder. The enemy tries very hard to lead us to his ways while we are fighting to walk in God’s ways. Here is the key, “…And the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing“. If you take off the yoke and put it aside, it’s easy for it to be slipped back. If you break the yoke, there is a possibility that it can put back together, however if you destroy it, case closed. Look at even documents, if the evidence is destroyed, nothing can be done to bring them back. If you tear them into pieces, it may be easy to put them back together and make some sense out of them. The anointing from above destroys the yoke never to be put back together again.
I could stop here with the anointing breaking the yoke presenting freedom, however at this point we are left at a very vulnerable state we must address. Remember the devil tempted Jesus in the wilderness without prevailing. What happened next? the devil left him for a season, meaning he was bound to come back. Therefore if you are loosed (freed) from and not led to, the devil will only leave you for a season bound to be back with new yokes. We must therefore take the yoke of the Lord, Mathew 11:28-30, “Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light”. The devil may not mind much being loosed from, he knows he’ll be back, but when you decide to be led to another yoke, he can’t handle it. “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed”, John 8:36, therefore seek to be yoked on Him.
