1John 5:4, “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world-our faith”
Believers born of God are candidates for victory, God has wired us for it. If you look at the building you are working in, or living in, you will discover they are wired, there are hidden electrical cords, telephone cords among other wiring. This gives an indication they are already wired to bring power, light into the building. If the lights do not come on due to lack of power, they do not rewire the building again do they? no, they look for ways to understand why the power is not flowing and correct it. Maybe it is turned off and need to be turned on.
This is no different from the believer born of God, wired to overcome the world. The question is, is the power of God turned on in your life that brings about victory or are you looking for ways to rewire your life. What is the world in this case?, the world is anything that goes against the knowledge of God. Anything that pulls you in the direction the Lord has not designed for you. Things that make you grievous while others may not feel anything wrong with them, I call that the world.
1Corinthians 10:13, “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it”. What is temptation? I love how Paris Reidhead defines temptation, he says, ” temptation is the proposition made to the mind to satisfy a good appetite in a bad (forbidden) way, and sin is the decision of the will to satisfy a good appetite in a bad way”. Temptation by itself is not sin, but we are afraid that by it we might sin and we need victory over it. The world presents us with temptation, and this verse tells us how common temptation is, “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man”. And the verse does not leave us hanging, it also tells us that we are wired to overcome it “but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able”. It then tells us that there is a way to escape and gain victory “with the temptation will also make the way of escape”. One little problem, this verse does not tell us how.
How do we gain victory then if we are born of God? 1John 5:4, “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world-our faith”, Jesus is the victory that has overcome the world and our faith in Him alone is the power to overcome the world. We become more victorious when we eat of Him as the bread of life, and drink of Him as the drink indeed until His nature becomes our nature, and His thoughts becomes our thoughts, His bones becomes our bones. Our faith in Him is the power we need to turn on. The question is where is the switch? Romans 13:14, “But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts”, Acts 17:28, “for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’ Colossians 3:3-4, “3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.
The power you turn on the most is the one that wins. Ephesians 5:14, “Therefore He says: ” Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light.” Isaiah 60:1-2, “1 Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the LORD is risen upon you. 2 For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people; But the LORD will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you”. Where are you today? Do you realize you have been wired for victory? Would you stand today on the promises of God and turn on the power?. Blessings Ev
