Colossians 2:6,8,9,”As you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in Him beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. And you are complete in Him”
The title of this devotion almost doesn’t make sense. How can you have Christianity without Christ. That is like having the sun without light. Yet listen to the words of General William Booth Founder Salvation Army as he stated “The chief danger of the 20th century will be…
…Religion without the Holy Spirit; Christianity without Christ; Salvation without regeneration
Forgiveness without Repentance; Politics without God; and Heaven without Hell.”
Does this not sound like our nation and world today?
“As we first received the Lord Jesus, so we continue to walk in the Lord Jesus. Receiving Christ is the Gate, but walking in Him as we have received Him is the Path. The Gate is an event, while the Path is a process. The Gate is for entering, while the Path is for walking.” Chip Brogden. Why do we need to make sure that Christ is kept in Christianity, see the following reasons.
We are called by God Himself to have a love relationship with Christ! Deuteronomy 6:4-5 says, “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.”
Mankind has fallen into sin by breaking God’s Law and out of relationship with God. Romans 3:10-11 says, “There is none righteous, no, not one; There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God. They have all turned aside; They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does good, no, not one”
Many Christians have moved from an intimate love relationship with God to a platonic relationship. (no intimacy) A relationship based upon intellect and lacking in love. Matthew 24:12, “Jesus said that at the ‘end of the age’ that lawlessness will abound, and the love of many will grow cold”
The church of Ephesus was rebuked for losing their love and blinded to the truth of their spiritual own condition. They were sick and didn’t know it. In Revelation 2:4, “Jesus said, “Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lamp stand from its place-unless you repent”
The 21st century church needs to take warning and guard against becoming a “loveless” church. We must be careful that we don’t live a “Christ-less Christianity”.
Application: If God had a meter of how much you loved Him based on John 14:21 how well do you feel that you will do?
