The Foolishness of God, Part 4of5, by Pastor Phil Sessa

“26 For you see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: 27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, has God chosen, yes, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: 29 That no flesh should glory in his presence. (1 Corinthians 1:26 – 29)”

God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called.

I love this truth. This is an old saying which Evans often reminds many of. When one reads Hebrews 11 commonly called the Hall of Faith, we read about the biblical giants. However have you ever wondered how these people became the spiritual giants that we view them as? I believe that at the time of these people’s lives, they did not consider themselves to be spiritual giants, but rather just ordinary people.

Imagine with me the following snapshots of the foolishness of God found in the Scriptures.

Joshua= Go around the wall 7’x’s, and on day 7 march 7x’s and blow your horn. Does this really sound like wise military advice? The FOOLISHNESS OF GOD

David = a small Jewish shepherd boy with one stone and a sling conquers a giant Philistine warrior armed with a sword. THE FOOLISHNESS OF GOD

Abraham = I want you to pack up and go out into the desert to a place that I will show you. Sarah is going to have a baby. You are no longer to be called Abram, but Abraham because you are going to be the father of many nations. Go to an unknown destination, have a name change and have a child while pushing 100 years old and a wife pushing 90! THE FOOLISHNESS OF GOD

Jesus = Jesus himself in John 9, walks up to a blind guy and spits on the ground, makes mud cakes, and shoves it in the guys eyes. Then he tells him, a blind buy, to go wash in the pool. How is the blind guy going to get there? The man obeys and received his sight, and still many didn’t believe. THE FOOLISHNESS OF GOD

Peter = Throw your net on the right side of the boat, even though you have been fishing all day. Peter listens to His carpenter Master Jesus, and the disciples had a huge catch in their nets, so much so that they could not pull it in. THE FOOLISHNESS OF GOD

Joshua blow your horns. David fight Goliath. Abraham Sarah is going to have a baby. Jesus stick mud in this blind guy’s eyes, so he can see, Peter throw your net on the other side of the boat. THE FOOLISHNESS OF GOD

  1. God did not call many wise men after the flesh – (Your name)
  2. God did not call many mighty, not many noble – (Your name)
  3. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise – (Your name)
  4. God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty – (Your name)
  5. God chose the base things of the world, and things which are despised – (Your name)
  6. God has chosen, yes, and things which are not, to bring to nought (nullify) things that are – (Your name)
  7. God’s foolishness results in no flesh (Your name)being able to glory in his presence.

Until the nets are filled…Blessings, Pastor Phil <><
