2Peter 2: Beware Of Toxic Gospel, 7of7, Evans Olang

Jude 1:3, “Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints”

I conclude with Jude’s opening word right after his introduction and greeting, for it is the key to battling toxic gospel.

Jude had purposed to write about our common salvation; but he found it needful to exhort his readers to stand fast, guard, and contend (struggle, fight, defend) for THE faith once given to the saints. For already faith was being corrupted by the denial of the rights of Christ as Lord and Master; and thus, by giving the reins to self-will some abused grace. These are the two elements of the evil Satan introduced, 1. The rejection of the authority of Christ (not His name): and 2. The abuse of grace, in order to indulge their own lusts.

In the light of the toxic gospel, we are called to defend the faith with all the strength we can muster, both by true doctrine and good example of life. 1Corinthians 15:58, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord”

We need the spiritual wisdom to discern, the Bible says in Ephesians 1:17-20, “17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power 20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places”

While we have many false teachers, we take comfort that God as in the days of Elijah has preserved a people who are faithful to preach the whole counsel of God (Doctrine and lifestyle). 1Thessalonians 5:12-22, vs. “12 And we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, 13 and to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. Be at peace among yourselves.” There are true ministers of God out here laboring faithfully in doctrine and lifestyle, let us esteem them, bless them, support them, pray for them to continue doing God’s work… 1Thess 5: vs.” 14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all”, like someone who is asleep, turn on the light gently; speaking the truth in love is what they need but with a lot of patience, comforting and helping them turn from error and heresies vs. 15See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all”. For those who pervert the gospel, we are not out to hate them but we are to be concerned for them and for those who follow them. May we pray for Holy Ghost conviction to bring them to repentance while there is still time vs. 16 -18, “16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you”. It’s all about contentment in Christ that we rejoice, pray and give thanks. Our sufficiency is in Christ, vs. 19“Do not quench the Spirit”. We must be careful not to quench the Holy Spirit, by indulging carnal lusts and affections, minding only earthly things. Believers often hinder their growth in grace by not giving themselves up to the spiritual affections raised in their hearts by the Holy Spirit”, vs. 20 “Do not despise prophecies”. Do not neglect the true preaching of the word, interpreting and applying the Scriptures in your life correctly, vs. 21 “Test all things; hold fast what is good”. We must search the Scriptures like the Bereans proving all things only to hold fast that which is good vs. 22 “Abstain from every form of evil” We should abstain from sin, and whatever looks like sin, leads to it, and borders upon it.

Brothers and sisters, “…contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints” Jude 1:24-25, “24 Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, And to present you faultless Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, 25 To God our Savior, Who alone is wise, Be glory and majesty, Dominion and power, Both now and forever. Amen”. Blessings Ev
